Hi all. Here are pictures of all the bikes that were part of the Ontario Adventure Rider booth. These pictures really illustrate the diversity of the riders (and their bikes) on this forum. I am hoping that the KTM crowd will see the light and make their way toward the KLR!!! :lol3

    On with the show!

Mr C, I worked the show on Friday, and fielded a lot of questions about your hay box panniers. Was talking to a couple of guys, turned out that we had mutaul buddies, they had just retired from the Forces, and I'm about to at the end of the year. Small world.

Was wondering, where did you source them? I saw the SVC BN paint on one, figured it was local. :ear

It is funny who you will meet sometimes. I have lots of stories, including meeting a person from my home town in the middle of the wilderness in Tasmania, Australia. That was a surprise!

Anyway, I picked up the boxes at a surplus store in North Bay. I assume he gets them from all over.

Too bad I didn't get to met you. I am sure we will during the next riding season. :clap

I know what you mean. I was in a small village in Switzerland and I ran into a good friend of an old riding buddy. The world is small.

North Bay, huh? I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Riding? Yeah I do that once in a while. :D

I bought my hay boxes from Beaver Surplus on Dufferin. At the time they were only $25 apiece. I currently have a pair laying in my garage. They were going to go on my G/S, but I've sprung for aluminum panniers. If I had of known, I could have sold them to Lornce for a tidy profit.:evil

hi everyone, still lurking. Missed the show at the last minute-car problems!!

about those cans, I too am a soljer, and would like to offer my 2 cents.
those boxes are heavy and thick walled (insulated).
I would like to offer some other options for you...I have done the work for you.

this place is worth a call, just across the Buffalo border-website is sketchy, the store is legit, and huge!! www.armynavysurplusoutlet.com

30mm ammo can is prob the best value....lots on the web and seal up water tight.

the trick is taking out the liner.... only on the bottom like Mr.C did...

The ammo boxes are too heavy..

When you getting your bike Soljer?

    Hullygully has a nice 04 xr650

I just weighed my mermite cases. Each one weighs 10 lbs (with all of the mounting hardware ... which is a sliced-up nylon cutting board and some bolts of various sizes).

As Doughy mentioned, the liner has been removed. Leaving the fiberglass lip on it means it stays water proof since you can use the original rubber seal.

I do, however, like the looks of those plastic cases that Soljer has mentioned. If the shipping wasn't so crazy, I would pick up a pair.

Two reasons why I mentioned my bike (xr650L)

    1. Simplicity.. It's aircooled.. Need I say more?

    2. 37" seat height... When I bought my bike I was topping the scales at 220 and 6'.. I cranked the load (is that the right term) up on my rear shok and VOILA! I had lots of room for compression..

I lost some size so I know 185... but only good things come from being lighter on a bike...

The KLR is a wikked bike for the buck!!! I am just not a fan of all the plastic on them.. Too much extra weight and things to break....

    Hey Grant!

If anyone's interested they also have a sister store in Toronto (Kensington market) when I called about other items they said the Toronto location usually has the same stock, never hurts to ask.

Word of caution to anyone looking to visit the location(s) for the first time or not familiar with Buffalo, just search google maps for a street view to do a quick recci before you go.

If they give us a booth again, I say we take it. If the snow's gone, we all suit up and ride our bikes straight out of the exhibition hall. :rofl:rofl:rofl

Maybe we should start a collection... A can with a coin slot on top labled "Hydro Collection" or "Send Ryan to Camp Fund"
