Thank you. I just happen to love photos and motos. If I had known 40-50 years ago what I know now, I might have tried harder to earn my keep with a camera. Now it's all fun. Some times I ride and refuse to stop to make a photo, some times the inverse.

Do you have a photo thread from 'Down Under?'

Ok, rode some more tag today. DHTUGS likes to place tags in the SW quadrant of the Upstate SC Tag Game; and I don't mind going to fetch them. He's also one of those taggers that you can learn some area history from. That said.........

Today's tag; 'The Barn' at the John de la Howe School in McCormick County, SC.

A minor moto milestone on this ride:

An old house I came upon while heading (sort of) home.

Thought about using this for the new tag, but it is quite close to the last one, and requires at least 5 miles of gravel. Neither is a game breaker, but I got the one I had in mind anyway.

So well, okay... went off riding with the Hooligans, again. I didn't fall down . We started off with 11, one had to quit early so then we were ten, then I went the other way. My ride was somewhere around 275 miles, I think most of the others rode farther today. Well, they are younger........:lol3.
The ride was more or less (NC) Table Rock Mtn, Linville Gorge, Maple (no syrup) Sally (Church) & (Rd). The photos here are what I thought I saw. Hope I got at least one of everyone.

We can do that, not this week though. Although Numa and Flasher have done most of this (and others, but Augie is about to go off on an ADVENTURE.)

I'm planning to ride/camp with an F650 group this weekend.

Attended my first rally with a group of F650 riders. Here's the route to Iron Horse Campground. It actually also shows the Friday & Saturday rides I did, also in pink, but the ride home is in grey.

Map indicated Courthouse Falls up this road, and indeed there is, but I didn't find it. Researched it when I got home, it is a short walk from the FS road, but there is no signage, so you gotta know where.... The river views were fine anyway. Said research also revealed this road would be closed the day after I was there, for most of the year due to a low water bridge replacement.

Went to the Chain Gang Hoot In The Holler, Durbin, WV. It was a hoot!

First day, Blue Ridge Parkway to Willville campground, Meadows of Dan, VA.

    It was windy and chilly.

I was working my up a back road (took a lot of those on this ride) and stumbled upon this Roaring Run Furnace national area in the Jefferson National Forest. Had my lunch here and looked around.

Yes, I had a grand time. Left out on Tuesday, Wed-Sat at Durbin, rode home on Sunday.

Here's Chain Gang Thread on the Hoot.

Day three ride was started on the twisties in view of the heavy rains we had overnight.

A few miles from the campground, view from the top.

You can still find pay phones (this one requires credit card) in the area due to the proximity of the Green Bank Telescope. There is quite a large area with no cell or radio service.

Day four of my trip saw a group of us following a local rider to the 'boat house.'

    First stop Buffalo Lake.

    Stream view.

Views of what we came to call the 'boat house.'

    And here is why.

Yes, that's right, someone was building a boat inside an old house. The house showed no sign of electricity, other than a dry cell hooked up to a light bulb.

The man was slain by police during a traffic stop, he rode a moped.

There is a story that he had earlier built a canoe, went down the Potomac (headwaters nearby) to DC, sold the canoe and rode the bus back home. Evidently he then (or concurrently) started building a boat. Our best supposition was that he was going to knock the back wall out, load the boat on a trailer and go continue his adventure.

We had a couple of boat guys in our group, and they recognized the (for lack of the correct terms) make and model of the boat. That is, who designed it, its name and such. They told us it was a very shallow draft (6") boat, propelled by wind/oars. He had made what I call 'outriggers' ('cuz I can't remember what Mark said they are really called) to keep it upright in weather.

    The mast/outriggers.

    Guess this was the kitchen.

The bedroom. Note the 'sled' standing on end. It appears to have been to pull his scooter up the stairs.

Home made, hand powered metal lathe. Dry cell still on the table to power the light.

We then headed for higher ground.

Delaine (sp?) (binoculars) was our guide for the day.

From there we went to see an underground stream. It goes through this hill.

That was the last time my camera came on this trip. It uses a proprietary mini-usb, and I forgot to bring it.
