I have already started showing the ride back to Durbin. These shots made on the out bound ride show some of the character(s) of the day.

Our most informative and interesting conductor, relaxing without his hat

Although the engine could make around 20 mph, the tracks dictate less than 10 mph

On the inbound trip, the train stopped for water. The have a 6 inch fire hose in the creek. They shoot steam through the line to start a siphon, then fill the tank.

After my morning train ride, I rode the motorcycle to Cass, in a loop back to Durbin.

Couple of views at Green Bank, the reason there is no cell service in the area.

Cass was a mill town for the timber industry. That's the 'store'. Next time I plan to ride the Shay locomotive train up the mountain.

Loren; how did you find the facilities at the campground? Clean; hot showers; quiet at night etc? Looks like you had a nice trip. I am contemplating a trip there for both the Cass train and the Durbin train later in the summer...Dave

Dave, the campground is clean and quiet. There is a brand new bathhouse to replace a rather shoddy one. Most of the campers are in RVs. They were relieved that we are calm bunch of motorcyclists..

And it is 20 mile ride to Cass. Be sure to use Back Mountain Rd for at least one way of the round trip.

I have family commitments that will take me out of town the next two weekends, so I most probably won’t be able to catch up with you before you leave. Ride safe, have fun and post some pictures!

Ya'll remember we had a tornado last summer? We've had straight line winds two evenings in a row now. I'm using my phone to try to post.

Power company people left at least until early am. Said the other big wire was cable. And it was still trapped under the tree. Which they had removed from their lines. ...
I am sensing some lack of concern from all the powers about the people in this hood.

Cable people out here now. You gotta know someone will get hurt on that cable in the dark. Sue y.

And in the meantime I have no power.

    Or cable. .....

All of the workmen that have spoken with us have been very polite and as informative as they could be. Just more of the same "it's not my job shit ".

No one got hurt here. It's all good.

We haven't had any weather related issues like that here. I'm out near the Deaf and Blind School. You must be in the northern portion of the county.

We live quite close to I-26 & Reidville Rd. Wind events happen so often that I keep checking to make sure I'm not in a tornado landing zone (trailer park).

Yeah...you're in one of the storm areas just coming out of the relative woods and hitting the city sprawl and heat island.
I never will figure out why tornados seem to like trailer parks unless it's that they are usually pretty much barren except for the trailers.

I was just reading about the last ride you posted up to Harrisburg and back. Looks like it was a really nice ride. here lately it seems I can't hardly find enough time for a cross town ride.

OK, so getting ready for the 'big' ride kicking off next week.

@augiedog has started a trip report, for the duration of the ride I will be using that thread, supposing wifi & energy........

Rode to the Saluda, NC area today with our older son. Trying to make sure I can use this little laptop to work with.

We went up and checked out 'The Gorge'. It's a zip line business. 11 separate lines, 1 mile of cable, 1 mile of fall. 3 hour event. My son's bike is the F650, the big bike is someone on the zipline. Motorcycle parking offered!

    Rider starting at the top

We went down Green River Cove Rd. It is open although with a few gravel patches from the earlier storms. Holcomb Cove Rd is still closed. Didn't take any pics on Green Cove, but the river was full of those tubing.

Went on to White Oak mountain and Shunkawauken Falls. View back toward Columbus from the top.

Just around the corner from the complex we spotted a doe with a fawn. I was very slow on the draw.

The fawn is pretty well hidden behind a flag
