Now I love all the old stuff you run across in VA and WV; however that Mast General Store takes the prize with roof, wood floor, PO and a coffin sample to boot. Priceless! Thanks, Loren!!

Thank you, John. Here are a couple more.

It is still very much an active store with goods people in the area want/need. Reason I saw the coffin; a lady employee asked could she help me? No, just looking around. She gave me a flyer with history and a scavenger hunt in the store, the coffin was one of the items to find. If you found them all (20-25?) you won a piece of candy.

She told me she has shopped there for 30 yrs or so and just recently took a job there, whereupon she learned they sold (at one time) coffins.

Thanks Loren. That store would hold my attention for most of a day, just looking and taking it all in.

Guess I better get to this before I see another leaf blowing and completely forget....

Went on a ride Saturday with @BluRidgeRider ,@JMforPres , and @augiedog . Met a Cat Square for breakfast, then off to the hills.

As Snoopy would say, 'it was a dark and dreary day' but I found it very uplifting! Finally found a little fall color. Probably Elk Creek Darby Rd

At another stop on Elk Creek Darby Rd.

Looking back at the cause of the stop

We sat here long enough to change their tire for them, never moved the motorcycles, and never saw another vehicle.

Then as we motored on our way, a possible explanation for so little traffic.

Then I managed to bump the camera into a wrong mode......... In my defense, the road was getting snottier...

Then we stepped onto the Blue Ridge Parkway. I still haven't noticed I'm in the wrong mode. We are just about to start riding in the cloud, then some rain.

Hiding my camera behind the windscreen while trying to show the cloud. It was about to get much thicker.

A brief stretch of thinning cloud

Then we stopped at Jonas Ridge (NC 181) for a sandwich, rain started up, put the camera away.

After we split up, just above Morganton, NC; I had to stop, so I got the camera back out. Looking back toward whence I came.

Rain started in earnest about 15 minutes after I got home. An absolutely wonderful ride on a 50% chance of rain day!

Couple of weeks ago Augie and I took a little ride south.

    December Ride.JPG

Spotwalla of the trip; original idea was to follow the Gulf Coast into Mississippi and run the Natchez Trace Parkway. Near certainty of bad weather by the time we would have reached Nashville shortened the trip.

All I learned researching: MVPX is Missouri & Valley Park. All photos I found of their engines had, at best, the MVPX spray painted on. This one looks to be in fat Sharpie. I found no record of this locomotive #.

This is at mile marker 10 on GA 15 south of Tarrytown.

A couple of oddities in this day and time. Felt like rain coming so put the camera up. A little further on we overnighted in Baxley, GA.

Day 2 started quite cool, in fact the whole trip was pretty cool. I did unplug my heat for a while in the afternoon, then the sun started dipping....

Anyway, we had a bowl of cereal and headed out. We stopped in Lakeland, GA for gas & breakfast.

One of the first things we saw in town was this mural.

And indeed the whole downtown was full of murals. Seems that the town was named Milltown until 1925 when it was changed to Lakeland. Starting in 1998 a pair of muralists started a series of murals depicting scenes from 1925.

We by no means saw all the murals in town. Heck, we didn't even know about them 'til we got there. The serendipity of motorcycle travel!

Approaching and leaving Lakeland we saw many orchards (groves?).

Some were new and young, some were more established. We didn't recognize them, but eventually saw a sign indicating we were in olive country!

@The Opa You doing how many miles per day? Eating at Mom'n'Pop diners and staying in cheap motels?

Riding on Natural Bridge Road, southeast of Tallahassee, FL. We are having trouble visualizing a natural bridge in this landscape.

Well, it is kind of a natural deck on the bridge

Around 250-300 mile days. Mom&Pop's as much as possible. Cheap motels as much a possible. Some camping mixed in during warm weather.

Although Augie at one time did Iron Butt stuff, the triple by-pass pretty well put done to that.

And I'm more candy ass than Iron Butt.

    We just like to ride.

A series of photos between Carrabelle and Panama City. This area was hammered by Hurricane Michael (cat 5) in October 2018. Having seen news photos at the time I knew the destruction was major. It is still painfully evident, even on a brief motorcycle ride through.

Wasn't really looking for damage but saw plenty any way. Also saw a beautiful area.
