I've been debating gearing but not wanting to spend money. Then this weekend I went to go change tires and found the stock KTM rear gear (45 tooth) a bit worn. I decided to go up three teeth to 48 . . . and then the chain wouldn't fit. That was NOT a cheap visit to the motorcycle shop. :lol3

So now I'll be running a 48 tooth on the 690. She gets a little buzzy around 70 mph particularly with the new tires, so may be pulling up the rear of our group. If anyone wants to blast down south from Golden at higher speeds, we might want to split up into fast and slow for that leg of the journey. :p3rry

70 is pushing it for my gearing and tires on the 640, you might not be the slowest one yet.

Have you changed that rear sprocket from the 38 tooth I installed? If it's still the 38 you will be just fine running the ole girl at 70. :deal

Stock gearing for me. The sprockets look fine for this trip. Now after this trip though I might be paying Doug another visit! "sigh"

    :)

If you guys decide to leave Thursday evening hook up with us at the war axe rest area. We will be in our new to us home.

Currently running 15/42. stock is 16/42 if I get time I might put the 16T on the front before I leave. Currently pretty happy around 65mph but I wouldn't want to spend too much time above that

Interesting, I originally had a 15/42 on the Zuki and in stock configuration it seemed way to tall. Almost difficult to get it moving on soft ground. So I went to a 14/42 and still had problems running slow. One last change was to switch to a 45 rear and with the 14 up front it was slow on the highway. Top speed about 60 before she started protesting. I will be running the 14/45 on the trail. A gear change is simple on the Zuki and generates a load of low end torque.
After a number of modifications I started back up through the 14/15/16 counter sprocket set-up and ended up with a 16/45, almost identical to stock. It's still a little hot on the trails, but does well on the pavement. I was telling Orangecicle yesterday that the bike would likely handle a 17/45 or the 16/42 if we need more speed. All said my bike is very comfortable at 65. The engine is thumping along in it's happy place. The Zuki does it's thing at low to mid rpm. Yes it can run faster but mileage starts to really drop.

I have the stock gray front fender and an extra special nut for the side stand. It's in the truck right now so I shouldn't forget it for your bike.

Hopefully that's all the spare parts I have left over for the old girl!

Looks like we are headed out ~ 9 am from West Des Moines on Friday, so we'll likely be just a few hours behind you . . . unless the Jeep is a wicked quick toy hauler. You never know. :lol3

No problem. I'm going to meet a buddy from high school somewhere in the Denver area for supper Friday night. We will be parking the camper and trailer north of the Denver area at an inmates residence. He has a farm. With lots of room. Just tell me when and where to meet you guys Saturday morning.
