4 corners is definitely a seen once, do not do again spot. Now if they would let you ride through...
Hey fellas I am in gypsum doing the route backwards. I was wondering if you guys are riding the trail after yesterday's rain. I did section 5 yesterday and most areas were dry but some of the shaded areas were slick.
I slid down a steep trail in the mud and barely kept the gsa up. Just wondering what others are doing.
We bypassed most of that when the rains started. Got back on the trail north of Steamboat springs.
It's scary when wet!
North of steam boat is pretty easy. Some huge houses toward the end. Have a great ride. I'm taking the day off hoping things dry out. Heading south on section 4 Sunday morning. Good luck.

Hope your trip went well. I live just north of Ouray (Ridgway) and can attest there are multiple options for getting through the San Juan's. Always kind of surprises me that the BDR sends folks up Corkscrew and Cinnamon and that the "less challenging" option is a huge detour. Down thru Silverton and on up to Animas Forks and over Engineer is a great alternative, and the views from Engineer are to die for!!
A bunch of us just completed an amazing loop as there are ALL sorts of cool options down in SW CO. Come on back sometime!! Highly recommend late September as leaves are typically in full color!
BTW - had a blast reading thru your prep for your trip!!! Learned a lot, as I have a '01 640!!
I did the "easy route" back in 2013. I have to say, my one disappointment in our 2015 trip is that I didn't get a chance to go back through there. That is the most beautiful place I've ever seen.
I'll be back to do Engineer and Black Bear one day soon . . . .
