Here's some of my favorite roads across Oregon, from the Coast to Idaho.
These are all easy roads, the main routes are possible two-up.
But, this route passes through at least 10 climate zones. It will be closed by snow until mid-june. Some roads in eastern Oregon will not work during or after any rain. It should be fine from mid-June until early October.
I try to avoid larger cities, but cross through large enough towns to get what you need.

Towns on route: Yachats, Harrisburg, Brownsville, Sweet Home, Sisters, Madras, Mitchell, Ukiah, Sumpter, Bridgeport, Rye Vly, Huntington, Richland, Halfway, Imnaha, Josphef, Enterprise, Asotin WA.

This is broken up into 9 routes, because I used Base Camp (lame).

Yachats - Harrisburg, Starts at Luna Sea seafood in Yachats, and you should too.
Yachats River Rd, Lobster Vly Rd, Alsea Falls, back road into HBurg. This route along passes through about 4 climates. No gas in Yachats. Route passes one mile south of the town of Alsea, gas, food.

Harrisburg - Sweet Home, across the valley on back roads. Back way into Brownsville, back road along the Santiam River. This doesn't actually to into Sweet Home, you must deviate to get gas.

Sweet Home - Sisters, Don't leave Sweet Home unless you have a full tank.
This route goes over the pass on the Quartzville Back Country By Way, closed for snow in winter, but it's paved. It transports down to the west end of Hwy 242, the Old McKenzie Pass, also closed for snow in winter, also paved.

Sisters - Madras, start at the Sisters bakery or the Gallery Cafe for home made soup. This goes near the Head of Metolius spring, Camp Sherman, Secret Geology, crosses Billy Chinook Lake. To find the secret geology, make a left at the end of 1170 where it hits pavement and go to the top of the hill. After crossing Billy Chinook, there are many view points to your left. Don't miss seeing the view of Round Point Dam. Top up in Madras.

Madras - Mitchell, this leaves the town of any size for a while. Passes through Ashwood, Gosner Rd, Horse Heaven, John Day River and John Day Painted Hills. Gosner Road is a NO GO if wet, it is also one of my favorites that passes through very remote ranches and rock formations.

Mitchell - Ukiah, north from Mitchell through Girds Ck Cyn, Twickenham, Winlock, Morrow Co OHV park, Blue Mt Scenic Byway.

Ukiah - Huntington, passes through Granite, Sumpter, Bridgeport, Rye Valley and I'm sorry but it has to do two miles of interstate highway. There is gas in Ukiah, Sumpter and Huntington, but you may have to look for it. The Bridgeport to I-84 section is one of my favorites.

Huntington - Halfway, this follows the Snake River Road, passes through Richland for gas and ends in Halfway, OR. The BnB in downtown Halfway is great. It could be a destination by its self.

Halfway - Enterprise, this starts in down town Halfway. Great little town. The BnB in town is great, fantastic breakfast. The high light of this route is the upper Imnaha River Road. This is not to be hurried. The route ends at Terminal Gravity Brewpub in Enterprise.

Enterprise - Asotin WA - Alternate Route, Zumwalt Prairie, Cold Springs Rd.
I'm calling this an alternate because the north end of Cold Springs Rd gets rough. Kind of a cobblestone path. Not difficult, just bouncy.

For an easy route, after Zumwalt Prairie just follow NFS 46 all the way to Hwy 3, then follow it north through the snake to Idaho/Wa.

Sumpter to Bridgeport Alternative Route. Did you know there's another Skyline Road in Eastern Oregon? They didn't do much excavation to create this ridge ride.

I have done all those different sections at one time or another over many years,,but never have put them all together for a complete route!,,AWESOME, Zube!
another jog is go south at Mitchell via dollarhide pond down toward Big summit prairie and Deep creek camp and then to Paulina,,and so on..
I once was told that gravel and secondary type roads have 11 times the miles when compared to ass-fault 'improved' roads in the State.,,,11 times!,,, I haven't even explored ALL the paved roads yet!

Thanks Zuber!!! I just downloaded the GPX in a file with your notes put in a word doc. I plan to do this route at some point when I come to OR again. This looks perfect for me to do on my F650.

Thanks again. If our paths cross at some point I would be honored to buy you lunch.

Thanks Zuber! There's enough new to me nuggets and old favorites to make this a top of the bucket ride.
