    Rest, ride, repeat

Started out great with a run on the slab to Wickenburg, and reconnect with the track.
    7F34C115-D3F5-4241-A6D4-5D51DBEEF640.jpeg

The track East of Wickenburg was scenic , moderate difficulty, a nice transition away from the desert as you climb.

The temperatures were more moderate , and I made good progress, until I didn’t.
The trail which I suspect was always steep, has become deeply rutted, gullied, and for me impassable.
I had significant fall, torqued the handlebars, and essentially was stuck until some atv riders gave me a hand.
Three younger guys on smaller KTMs told me not to go on as the trail had deteriorated in my recent years.

The ATVs were turning around, and even the jeeps were having trouble

A Good Samaritan, David, helped me with the bike, let me cool off in his truck, and guided me back
    To the 74/I17 junction.

A new day, a great day!

    66642B5D-EB72-46C9-B718-5E51D90A2BBB.jpeg
Started out at dawn at elevation, caught the tracks and headed to Pine
    4B0188FA-7A16-4F30-AB05-7E25FB2DC889.jpeg 176ADA47-A715-421C-BF4E-A70FF179ED5F.jpeg
My goal for the day was check out the primary route, avoid desert in th lower altitudes. Cut East on 206, and recaught the track. This led through pines on forest service roads. Most were easy gravel, but the center section a bit rougher. 3F6BFDB6-808A-419C-AFB5-507128CE8FC2.jpeg DBCEB9DD-9A94-4283-A817-CB329C300EC9.jpeg 351A2168-4720-4D74-90CC-17C0B5908342.jpeg 0A23BF07-7553-40AD-8B87-61E96C2D770F.jpeg 68680D7F-695C-4359-8042-B5ECE3581BB0.jpeg 6C486616-3B01-490B-9566-75F46AB5ADAC.jpeg
The track transitions to sweeping views before the run into Globe 8185A5C5-FDAB-4047-9785-B9EC319858C6.jpeg E874DE8C-FFDA-4861-845A-07EDD61EEBF0.jpeg 2F92BAA7-AC6C-4827-AF72-A79E179C79AE.jpeg

As the next day was desert riding with no break in the soaring temperatures noted for a few day, plan was a highway run East and link with the track at higher altitudes farther east.

Ended in Safford due to heat, fatigue.

Oh O! Looks like I need to do some new scouting next spring!
I was worried about the last section into Crown King, that's why I suggested starting again in Camp Verde.
There is a nice mountain alt east of Wilcox, then you're probably best off slabbing it to Silver City.

This day was the full track Silver City to Socorro. Took the standard track, and it was great.

Several big strip mines in the area.

    Day 8

Thunderstorms during the night. Awoke to rain, 40 degrees. Forecasted flash floods in the lower elevations, snow in the higher.

There was a 2 hr no rain window 0500 to 0700, So I got up and rode. Looked like Roswell would have less rain. Staying was no option, as temperatures forecast at 40 with rain for at least the next day.

Hit the tracks, but within a mile the canal crossing had too much water for me to risk, so turned around to link up with Highway 380 to Roswell.

Pulled out every trick I knew to stay warm. Kept speed down, wore all my clothes. Warmed my hands on the exhaust, stopped at Family Dollar once I found one open for nitrile under gloves, socks for my wrists, plastic under my coat.

Did not avoid the rain ( in fact it was mostly at the higher elevations), winds were gusty, temperatures were 40 , or lower at altitude), speed was as fast as I could without freezing my hands...

I may have been colder in my life (I do live in Michigan!), but not much. I remembered praying to God for cooler weather the rest of the trip about four days ago, when I was in the desert. I guess I got what I asked for...! EA1C6409-D899-4369-83F4-6FEA64EEC454.jpeg 9B37F930-830C-4D95-8991-C24F9ED4D385.jpeg 013BB701-91DD-41B1-B997-0514AAEEB520.jpeg 41F31434-3D52-4D02-BB82-A1DFFEE88B5F.jpeg

    Roswell was a welcome sight.

I had thought I was both physically and mentally prepared, but this was crazy. Hard to be ready for almost 80 degree temperature changes within four days...
Regret missing the backcountry portion of this leg, but I’m not sure just anybody would or could have ridden what I did today..

Made it further East, and rested. Tomorrow is a new day, what’s next?,

Long day with some beautiful scenery. Glad to see the sun!

    Started out early
Solid sandy gravel through more flat land transitions to some rolling hills 0CDBF4C6-5ED6-4F90-A221-C4CD17718E3B.jpeg B5EBF964-852D-44D8-BD2F-30840A706C70.jpeg

After Clarendon, the track was mostly through rolling ranch lands.
I cut East to connect the track, skipping McLean and Shamrock, and caught the OAT.

Near Mangrum, OK, cut East to visit some friends. As I went through Altus, stopped at Altus Motorsports, as my rear tire is already quite worn. They found one, but a bit South.

So after a nice home cooked meal, and a great visit, ducked south toward where a new tire waits...

Quick run to get a tire first thing in the AM
Shinko 216MX. Maybe not the best choice, but it was the only choice. A little more road noise til 68 mph, but beggars can’t be choosers...

I would recommend 380 Motorsports in Decatur, TX if you are in the area and need help - they were great!

Next a run northeast through greener ranch lands to catch the OAT near Colbert, Ok.

As I hit the outskirts of town the bike began to stumble. Requiring extra throttle to stay lit.
Got fuel, gave it a rest, but no better.
Worried about the fuel pump, a notoriously common problem on these bikes, I limped to a hotel and made some calls and internet searches.

The guys on the Husqvarna 701 Moto and Enduro thread were most helpful.

In the end I pulled the fuel pump

Found a leak in the filter, so the injector couldn’t pressurize.

Donny at Graham KTM in Senatobia, MS was most helpful, and helped arrange a pickup for me to get there for repairs in the AM

Glad to see you're back on the 'road'. You do find the most perfectly smooth fire roads I've ever seen. You must have spent a lot of time laying out this route.

I remembered right after I posted that. I went back to the first page and have been downloading the different sections from NT. Everyone has to have a "to do" list. :lol2

    SR19MS1, SR20AL1, and SR21AL2

Started earthly , and caught the track near Eutaw, AL

The track was smooth, with expected vistas...

Then I realized the theme of the day would be “Ridin’ the Storm Out..”

The rest of the day was a rain ride, with if surfaces on the dirt... 88F36B7C-9EEE-4BDF-9AC9-F5457D2390EA.jpeg D2D725EA-AE39-4849-B47C-B6599A57CD08.jpeg E5917E61-2942-4533-B0E9-D65B96B54E72.jpeg

    Day 16

    SR21AL2, SR21AL2-2, SR22GA1

Began again before dawn in the rain with a run to the track...

Found first Starbucks of the trip! AC823225-BFC1-453E-89F4-08AA00E5191C.jpeg

Then a run in the rain and mist....

Made a break off the route to visit a fellow Hereford breeder: DAF1DA5A-9A15-4E0A-9996-019A7FDFCD97.jpeg

Then return to the track. The Georgia segment has a bit more pavement as connectors
    But still good scenery, and welcome sunshine... 57F5F8A7-ABC0-4AD6-B8D7-1FA698CA3853.jpeg 18A4C6D8-C852-4488-AB3F-1BDE21FC6247.jpeg A0288FDE-3606-4FD5-96D2-73EBE2673BD0.jpeg 291568C0-6CA8-4594-9567-C0142B9A1A6A.jpeg D8A0424C-E367-4558-9238-55D623E4EF6C.jpeg 38004EF2-0F3A-47EE-B3FC-9BFFCE514FA0.jpeg D109FE05-581E-41E3-A1DA-FF019F784F4E.jpeg

With 300+ miles on the clock, I made a run to a hot all off the track.

Plan a two day run to the beach!

    Day 17

    SR23GA2 and SR24GA3

Ran to the track before dawn..

This segment seems to be be way more pavement , with only a few intercalary bits of dirt, Forest two track etc.

These chicken barns are everywhere, and I’ve been seeing ( and smelling) them since Arkansas...

    Savannah River

There was a road closed sign, and for good reason...
But the old bridge was still open with a path to it... 666944C0-59B6-469C-9018-B15A74114409.jpeg B88A0E68-AEAD-45ED-8A3C-503100CDFC4C.jpeg

Around Sylvania I realized on checking my tires were shot!
No wonder the footing has been iffy on the limited dirt I am seeing...

Missed the track south of here.
With weather, poor tire, and “sameness”, I opted for a gentle reroute for the last 80 miles..

Followed the track to Tybee Island
The only access to the beach is for “authorized use only”. (Use the 19th street access) I figured more then 4000 miles and a bunch of challenges authorized me to use the access..
