You must have had a blast, Joe. And you learned from the best. :freaky

(Okay, so I'm late to the party. Lights are out, everyone's gone home or passed out on the floor...sigh)

Thanks for the Story Osos. Great trip.

I've often tried to estimate what the average mileage is between flats in Baja. I've never had enough mileage to get a good idea, but you guys had 14 flats in 9500 miles.

I've estimate one flat every 500 miles before, and then thought that that was prolly low and that a 1000 miles might be closer to the truth. You guys got almost 700 miles per flat over quite a few miles.

You rode quite a few single track miles where there are no nails falling from used lumber being hauled over the roads, but you had cactus and rock/rim pinches to add to the flats.

I bet your 700 miles per flat is pretty close to being a truthful average. It might be lower than the real number because of how hard you all were riding.

    Food for thought....hummmm.

Currently I'm using tubeless tires (sealed spokes with ShoeGoo). My ride on the Continental Divide (4500 miles) last year, saw only one horse shoe nail that I plugged even before it went flat.....but I don't run hard enough to ding rims. Might not work for you guys.

....again thanks for all the work that went into this report...you too, Kelly. :freaky:freaky

Thank you guys and gals for the report, it was fantastic. I'm also wondering why you don't run tubeless, it appears you're all on aftermarket wheels. I'm assuming that tubes are more reliable on tires that become questionable throughout a long ride?

:huh:huh Wow, I'm hurt. You don't trust me. :cry

Okay, that was the crocodile tears. Anyway it was real but no beer so I didn't deem it pic worthy. Especially with corperate policy and all that jazz. I'm sure you have plenty of that a WanCo Industries.

Got caught lurking by LittleWan :yikes I must say you did an awsome, great report, looks like you guys had a blast.
I'm hoping to do some of Moto Vaquero's tracks also and some of your's that LittleWan gratefully sent me, but it may just be the boring easy one's :D to you.

Hope to do up a report when I return from my trip, but it may pale in comparision to this one.
I shall do my best to let the :topes happen and have the camera ready for when it does :lol3.

    Hi you guys, :wave
BigWan is perfectly fine leaving the report as is (he did years worth of posts in the last couple weeks...:lol3)
but I can't stand to have questions hanging...
I just had to pop in here for a few things.

    Heh.. hi, twisted-hog :evil
I think you'll like that trail from El Condor to Laguna Hanson.
    Look for the arch...

On your way down to Cabo, try and do the Coast Road (east cape), too. The views are incredible.

Have a great time in Baja!

Sorry to hear about the spiral fracture, redog1! :cry
It's especially sad to break something now that the ride report has ended.
    No more reading material! :(:
    Heal up quickly!

    Oh? :ear
    Congratulations! :clap
    Enjoy the new bike! 990?

I know that fletch123 (and sharpie?), lennys, and JoeMongo are all recent converts to the 9x0. :evil

    Mmmm...delicious.

    Hi Ratman!
Matt and I are glad you enjoyed the report. :D
Your assessment was interesting and I think your numbers are pretty good.

Looking back at the Baja Wan-Thousand...
it was 2500 miles, no single track but we did do Mine Road/8 Mile Trail
and the road to Mission Santa Maria.
    Both were seriously rocky.

Bartek had 5 flats, us Wans had 1.
    So, that's 1 flat every 833 miles.

If we average both trips (WanK + Oso Tired), it's about 755 miles per flat.

Not bad - you called it. :thumb

Also - Bartek! You did so well on this ride. From 5 flats, down to 1.
And, this time you had more tubes than flats! :D
    This calls for a meme...

    :clap

    :lol3

More tubeless/Tubliss questions! I had a couple PMs, too...
It was hard to see, but Matt addressed that on page 43...

Hope that clarifies. We'll be sticking with tubes.
And now that we know to expect 1 flat every 755 miles, it's easy to plan accordingly.

Thanks for the love, you guys!
It's hard not addressing every single comment, but this is me, waving my ass off at everyone - :wave Hola! Gracias! De Nada!

Matt's too busy hoola hooping to sign in, but he says "Thanks!" too.

Enjoyed another "Wan" report . Thanks a bunch Matt ! I can picture Kelly chaining you to the PC to finish the report , a ton of work for sure . Thanks a million ! I have said it before and I will say it again , you guys are incredible on those giant scooters in that kind of terrain . Your pictures and video along with great descriptions put this broke down , old armchair rider right in the action . Many thank to you and Kelly for taking everyone along on all the great rides . Go ahead and take a tiny break , then figure out the next big ride . Also thanks to the rest of the OSO crew , it wouldn't have been the same without all the players . :gerg:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Been sick on the couch for four days and thanks to the Wans, I have been on a Parks and Rec marathon. Maybe the head cold is getting to me, but it seems to me that BigWan could be Ron Swanson's brother. If he was Ron's brother, Ron would be jealous of his muy macho eyebrows.

quote feature acting wonky so I had to copy and paste:

":scratch Do you mean WanCo Industries™?

haha, unfortunately, we got our career advice from Lloyd Dobler.

WanCo Industries™ doesn't sell anything. That's just my little joke. :d
A name I made up for sion's Pain and Tension award:"

on my way home from work today I was approaching this sign from the other side:

and what did my wondering eyes see but this:

so of course I stopped and took these pics

turns out there really is a company called Wanco: http://www.wanco.com/

    Hi sion,
(by the way, I haven't been able to quote properly for months now..:huh)
    Thanks for the pics!
We appreciate your renewed commitment to the spirit of Pain and Tension - OK, you can keep your award! :D

Yep, I googled "wanco" a while back and found that link.
I like this division of your Wanco:

I was channeling them while the Osos were in Baja..."Wanco security is always watching" :evil

There's also this place in Hong Kong, Matt found them while googling "wanco moto industries limited inc ":

    Oh well. :dunno

My enthusiasm for the name was tempered by more googling.
    That monkey-fighting Urban Dictionary... :ddog

First they ruined "chuffing" and now this...
    Behold!
    the Wanco Industries mascot...

Apparently, "wanco" is short for "wandering cock?" :scratch

    :lol3

I'll steal a photo from the Oso family album...(thanks, ADVwnbe)

    :rofl

Thanks for the fun comments everyone. We're (still) glad you enjoyed the report.

I hope NSFW and the n00bs are having a great time in Death Valley.
The Mansfield is in Baja right now, maybe he'll run into ktmnate and advrockrider (did you guys leave yet?)...
better see some ride reports when you get back. :deal

OK, I'll leave you with one last bacon-y Ron Swanson...for kendall and hobbes

Oh, wait - and this one:

`06 950 S I only have a few rides on it. Really liking it so far. I am amazed how stable it is in the dirt. Now if that snow would finally melt so I can get to some real trails and get "educated" before my DaKAL trip this summer. :evil

We don't go down until April 15th the bikes are ready. I could load and be out of the house in about 1 hour (and my wife knows it). I want to thank you and Moto Vaquero for all the hard work scouting and documenting the route for us :rofl

And I will have a ride report when we get back. I just hope it's half as good as yours. I do know I will probably have more KTM abuse (The big girl loves her naps).

    Hi guys
In the past week I had an Australian fellow inmate over...Aussieonslaught
He is traveling for over a year now through north, central and south Americas. He is on the last leg of his trip going to the arctic circle in Alaska and then back home to Australia. :freaky

If any of you know somebody that want to buy his bike, will be available around may 1st. It is a 2013 Kawasaki KLR 650 with 30.000 miles. It comes with Racetech springs front and back, way better setup for an adventure than the stock suspension and comes with many more extras.
I had a chance to ride with him for a bit and I can tell you that this guy took very good care of the bike, it is in very good shape and comes with everything you need for your next adventure :deal

Your ride report and video clips here finally motivated me to get off my ass and haul ass down to Baja for the first time on 2 wheels. Hooked up w/ a couple SoCal locals & did 4 days, 830 miles, ZERO Flats! Included some Nichols singletrack, and The old mine/8 mile trail.

Here's a short Bill Nichols Singletrack tribute vid I put together from the trip....
