Aw, I see your point chrish4ku...:shog

But, don't forget we had come into Moab through Lockhart Basin/Hurrah Pass -
similar views, but way better riding.
And, before that - Southwestern Colorado. Maybe the most scenic riding there is. :deal

Heh, we were spoiled, what can I say? :dunno
If you want to see the whole 146 miles of the white rim trail, it's here. <-- same link to Summer of Stupid.
my old camera took much better photos, too.

but finally got caught up. All I can say about that slick rock ride the guys did, I probably couldn't do that 20 years ago on my best day, :bow:bow:bow
Musselman Arch, what's up with putting the biggest guy out towards the middle when doing the jump? :scratch, :lol3:poser

    Hey redog!
Glad you got caught up. :D

    Day 11: 8/11/13
goofing off around Moab. 96 miles, continued.

    Shoot!
I always forget to check the stupid phone for pictures.
Matt reminded me about this group photo from Musselman Arch.

I don't like it for talking, but that thing takes nice panoramas. :D

    Back on the trail.

    Heading up the Shafer switchbacks...

    Here comes Osito!

    Hola! Hola! Hola!

:rofl (aww...you know I'm just fooling around, Osito!! :D)

I love these switchback photos. Indulge me - I have 2 more from the phone.

Next we were going to go down Long Canyon...

Woo! The Three Amigos! :ricky:ricky:ricky *cough!*

Here we are - Long Canyon.

Oh good, it wasn’t washed out. :D
One year we couldn’t get down here, the road was gone.
I guess it happens a lot.

The guys seemed to be digging the leisurely ride...

Everyone enjoys the big rock. :nod

Aw, this is one of our oldest videos - back when I used to do (unwatchable) handheld.
    The dark ages! :gerg

Long Canyon was a lot siltier that time. Freshly graded.

I wholeheartedly agree that phones aren't cameras, it may be argued that in this case it has preformed better than your camera. There, is said it. It hasn't diminished the awesomeness of this RR report though. :D

I know, B-Rod, I know. :cry It sucks.

I have never promised Beautiful Photographs. Ever.
Because I'm pretty sure I'm too lazy for that.
I've always specialized in strictly "Meh" photos - but hundreds and hundreds of them. :D
    Maybe blurry, maybe poorly composed,
but I can usually capture a particular moment in time.

But this report - Ugh. The worst ones ever. :puke1
You saw how badly my camera is scratched, right?

I just feel so bad for the Osos.
So many great shots, just poorly executed by my crap camera.

    :2cry

But it's better than not having the shots at all, right?

    :dunno

I mean, I lost count of how many times I dropped that thing in the rocks on this ride. Clunk!
    And in the mud. Splat!
And in the sand....(what noise does sand make?)
I scraped a lot of dirt and water and dust and grime off of that lens to get it that f**ked up!

    Anyway.
Sorry, you guys. But you still have 5 more days of shitty photos to get through....

Gah. Sorry about the lousy, glare-y photos. :cry

Facing away from the sun is a little better.

Heh. Got lots of Lica pics on this ride. :super

These pinnacle guys were over by the potassium pools.
I forgot to say “hi” to them on the way in.
We'll just wave goodbye instead... :wave

    And, we’re done.

No, it wasn’t the entire White Rim Trail, but it was a nice taste.
chrish4ku made me feel jerky for badmouthing the WRT. :(:
He's right. It's fun, just long.
I told Matt we have to stop doing ride reports. We’re too jaded.
We don’t get thrills from the gateway drugs anymore, we’re in full on Jeffrey territory. True dirt junkies.
(I tried to find a good clip for you guys, but they all had long ads. this one was the best)

We headed back to the motel to see how the guys were doing...

Hey, hey - Scott’s almost ready to go on a ride!
(I didn’t realize he had put on a new tire until I was editing pics)

Radek transferred some pics and video to our hard drive.
    Thanks, Radek! :bow

He was going to put on his tires,

then we would grab something to eat...

Chris, The WRT is a very easy ride. Its about the same at Titus Canyon as far as skill level.. Its very scenic but not technical. Its also washed out now and just 1 way in on the arch side.. Mike z was there on Tuesday.

    Kelly,

Consider getting the Sony TX30 for your next camera..

Its waterproof, shockproof, you just slide the cover down to turn it on and off. no need to find a tiny on/off button.. it takes great pics at 90 MPH and you can get a 2 year warranty from sony for about $80

here is a pic we took of you at 70 ish.. mph... always clear and no bluring..

your lens will never get scratched because you don't have to touch it because its always protected...

R-E-S-P-E-C-T , I just spent the better part of the past 3 or 4 days following your adventures and feel like I should turn in my KTM big bike card

Riding through most of the toughest passes in Colorado, during one of the heaviest monsoon seasons that I can remember and you guys were 2-up...oh then derbied around slickrock

Thanks for taking the time to bring us along!

We rode it last week and got bored about halfway and turned back. Scenic, but a non-technical bone-rattler of a trail. Ran into some other ADV riders on Lockhart the next day and they said the washout story was exaggerated and they were able to ride the entire WRT. Nevertheless, we got some great pictures in there and the switchbacks were fun.

    Thanks, Paul -
but how does it crash? Mud, sand? :ear

The majority of the time, I crash with the camera in my hand, as I'm taking photos -
so chances are the Sony TX30 would be uncovered as well.
Usually the camera gets jammed face first into the ground...buried in sand or mud.
Any sliding mechanism would probably get full of grit.
    That concerns me.

I don't worry about blur on the highway - we rarely go fast on pavement.
I'd venture to say you took that photo of us at 62 mph :lol3

I do like the ORANGE version of the TX30, though. :D

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it.

    Hey shotty_co!
Oh, thank you so much - I'm thrilled you enjoyed the RR!
it's a great complement coming from a Colorado local. :deal
I hope I did your state proud - even in the rain, it was fantastic!!

    Thank for signing in. :D

    Hi DARKRYDER -
Thanks, glad to hear we weren't the only ones.

You made me feel like less of a jerk for not enjoying the WRT. :D
happy to hear you had a good trip!

OK, guys - I'm still working on pics and screen shots.
Will get Hell's Revenge up sometime today...

    :mad?

Thanks for the info! I love that stuff. :D

    Day 11: 8/11/13
goofing off around Moab. 96 miles, continued.

Matt and I didn’t know anything about Hell’s Revenge.
I thought I had done a decent job doing research for Moab,
    but apparently I suck. :rolleyes
Evidently, Hell’s Revenge is one of the most well-known trails.
    Oh. :dunno

I asked Matt whose idea this was and he couldn’t remember.
    Maybe Scott? :scratch
From the video, it sounded like Scott knew enough to know that we shouldn’t do Hell’s Gate. :lol3

We followed Lica out of town and towards Sand Flats.

I guess this is a super popular tourist tour.
We saw a bunch of these jeep things.

    Beep beep!

I had no idea what to expect. Are you sure this is okay to do 2up?
    Matt said, “Maybe...”
    Guess we’ll find out!

So far, it was sand and rocky sections. Not bad.

Scott was enthused! (for now )

According to that 4x4 link, Hell's Revenge crisscrosses Slickrock’s bike trail at certain points.
So, it was basically the same type of terrain.

We were all hooked up via the Senas, so we could have a 5-way conversation.
    It was really cool! :D

It definitely helped when we were trying to figure out which way to go.
No one had a map or anything, so we were winging it.

I think the hardest part (so far) was the lighting
It was late in the day and the sun was blinding the guys on these hills.
Matt said he couldn’t see a thing, he was just “hoping for the best.” :huh

Well, that’s not confidence inspiring, is it?

    Nope.

if you break the camera. just send it back.. mine has been back in the 2 years that I have had it, takes 8-10 days or so and they send you a new one... no charge for shipping either, they send an empty box to you..

    here comes more, DiggerD
Jeeze, Paul - do you have stock in Sony? :lol3
haha, OK, I'm still going to do what MasterMarine suggested,
but if that doesn't work, I'll look into your TX . :deal
    thanks :)

    Day 11: 8/11/13
goofing off around Moab. 96 miles, continued.

So, the trail was mostly slickrock, as you can imagine.

    With sections of sand.

    Parts were deep...

    Sometimes, really deep!

I threw together a little video for this section...:evil It's short.

I just liked the chuckling. :lol3

    Make sand your favorite!

The bad thing about the 5-way conversation is that, at one point,
the rest of the guys had to hear me gasp and drop a couple f-bombs.
    Sorry, Osos. :shog

    It was probably around here...

I thought we were going to eat it for sure!
(but, we didn’t. thanks, mr. honey)

Or, it could have been in the rocks.
Again, the sun was in Matt’s eyes and he said he couldn’t see shit...

Nothing like hitting this stuff, “Admiral Nelson-style” while blinded by the sun. :eekers

You win some, you lose some.
We didn'’t crash hard, just partially fell over...

Unfortunately, Radek was right behind us (trying to film) and we screwed him up.
Do we get bonus points or a penalty for a 2-for-1 crash? :scratch

    D’oh! Sorry, Radek. :cry
Hope you didn’'t hurt your wrist again.

At least I helped him pick up his bike! :gdog

We were still just wandering around, trying to follow the trail...

    Hmm. This didn't feel right...
