Hi all, the old 96' is in desperate need of new front and rear tyres, anyone have an opinion, bike is used mainly on road, but taken on dirt roads most weekends, also plan to do the Longreach 'Tenere Tragics' next year. Any replies greatly appreciated.
Not really....... but I'm planning on doing the tragics ride next year too from Bundy. Thinking about Carnarvon george on Monday, longreach tuesday. Wed/Thrus in Longreach for the ride and back on Friday. Happy for some company. I have a MT 90 on the rear of my 660 and it works well on the road but not much chop on the gravel. I also rum MT 21's but as good as they are I can feel them wearing away on the black top. trying a cheap V rubber on the front of my 750 at the moment so will see how that goes. Looking at probably wearing out an old set on the wat to longreach and getting some MT21's or the like in Longreach for the ride. Just drove down past your way this morning from Mackay to Bundy o on Boxing day.

Both bikes are doing well on their respective tyres and I'm doing much the same type/mix of riding you are.
The Wee with the Mefo/Mitas mix has covered about 1500km, much of it dirt, the rest at highway speeds and the tyres are showing absolutely no wear [the grip is good and the Mitas on the rear has no "chicken strips" left- I hate that term to describe how far over I have been on them though].

Hey guys, what is everyone pulling in rpm's at 100kph and what is best for the engine for extended periods. pretty sure I'm pulling 15/46 at 4200rpm for 100kph but haven't checked accuracy against GPS yet. heading off on a big trip in the middle of the year that should see 5000plus K's put on. looking at possibly coming down to a 42 to give it more highway legs but what rpm will that give me at 100kph? thanks in advance.
You can back calculate this using the orig sprocket ratio and then going forward to calculate the new speed using the new sprocket ratio. Let me know if does not quite make sense
Hmm, not sure about the revs for 100kph, but on the expressway I find that if I keep my Tenere (2012 model) revs around 4000 rpm, I can average about 110kph (ok, often a smidge below) and don't seem to suck the fuel too much. I usually get about 400klms out of a tank before the thingy starts flashing.

Hi jazdiver, just rode in to work today and I'm pulling 5k rpm at 101kph on the gps. I have a 48 tooth rear sprocket though. Might drop it down a bit now I think about it. Does pull well though in 1st and 2nd. Hope that helps.
BTW after riding the S10 the last month or so it was good to get back on the 'smaller' bike. Feels like a trailbike in comparison!
Thanks guys, going to change the rear. 46 seems ideal on single track but is just a siege too low on the highway. Likely to drop to a 43 or 42. If I can keep 4000rpm at 100kph l'll be happy, anything below that and it seems to be off its torque curve. anyone have any thoughts on brake upgrades for the front of a 4UX, doesn't exactly exude confidence when reaching for the lever.
Hi all yep new tyres front and rear, trouble strikes the mechanic confirms what i have thought for a while, the rear shock is no good. "How much to get it fixed?" the unsuspecting customer asks, "About $1300-$1400" to replace it with original, or you if lucky you might find the parts and you might be able to rebuild it, about $700," The starving tenere rider wonders if anyone out there has a cheaper solution, this may have shot my Tragic's trip dead in the water.

Also heard that a mob in Brissy can rebuild 'non rebuildable' shocks. Might be RAD, when I remember the name I'll post it up. Did my S10 before I got it. Hope you sort it.
For that money shock specialists can work real magic... there are one or two mentioned in this thread.
$700 for a rebuild seems a lot. Give Dave at Suspension Matters a call. You'll find him on the web. Dave not only does a good job, but he modifies the shock to make them easier for later servicing. He did mine last year for the APC rally.

Hi all. I have posted some questions in the tenere Tragics thread. Any advice would be appreciated.
Also does anyone know if the Perelli Rally scorpions can fit on the Tenere's? They only come in a 150/70 - 17. Is that too wide for a 660 or 750? I assume you can put a tube in them but has anyone tried it? Courious if it would, Firstly fit the rim, then Secondly if it would clear the swingarm ect? Also don't know if it would be too much tyre for the 660. Pretty sure the 750 will be right with the extra grip. Any advice appreciated as I read they wear well and looking for something with a bit of life. Cheers, Jono.
