Or if it's vintage like the bike, it might be a Keith's Touring Specialties 3-Qt Sump. MAC has the same design (they might have even bought Keith's casting moulds).

    Historical trivia break:
    http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69962

Same oil pickup extension, extruded aluminium. Use new gaskets, clean and Loctite the bolts in. The oil pan looks to sit low to the ground, but I've never dinged it once in 35+ years (but no DSing)

I run an oil capacity of 2.75 qt and use a longer "A" disptick (11 43 1 337 542) at the "MAX" (upper) mark, which gives a tad more crankcase volume and less oil mist outta the breather. Another plus is that the handle is plastic and doesn't burn the fingers when HOT.

Lesson #1: AAA does not handle out of system motorcycles any more. Out of system "vehicles", yes, but not motorcycles, They used to, but not any more.

Lesson #2: I have the original title, but it was not signed. Try to track down title owner and get signature.

Lesson #2: Brunnworth Title Services in Huntington beach told me the DMV fees would be $220, not too bad... but I still need to get signature on title before I can move forward.

    Stay tuned...

Not exactly an Airhead but it is an aircooled engine, a rarity in this day and age.
    Congrats, Tink.

And even as a '14 model, it has a nice "vintage look and feel" to it.

    samthg,
Could be the 4 into 4 pipes were purchased from a Japan source. I've seen them on the web, very sexy, but very costly $$$$$.

Well, I filled out all the DMV forms :deal, had to go back to got the seller to sign several pieces of paper. Turned everything over to Brunnworth Registration in Huntington Beach (thanks villageidiot). Brunnworth took care of everything, including the VIN/Engine number verification, saving me several trips to the dreaded CA DMV and CHP offices. So, $98 bucks later I should be getting a clean CA title in 4 to 6 weeks. The bike will remain in non-op status for now, and I should not have to pay any back fees as the seller stated that the bike has been in storage since 1979, the last year the bike was registered in CA. I asked to keep the original blue CA plate too.

So, for now, I sit and wait :*sip*. Until I have a clean CA title in hand I'm not going to start putting money into this project... just in case it all goes south :eek1, fingers crossed that it will not :brow.

I got the receipt from the CA DMV for the title. Should receive the actual CA title in the mail in a few weeks. Once I have title in hand... let the games begin! :rilla

Nice. I would have thought that the red rear springs would have looked odd, but they actually complete the visual arc started by the tank-->sidecover. Chrome fenders tend to blend into the ambient.

That's an awesome old bike. I'm glad to hear you navigated the title maze so well. Iowa used to be a drop in the bucket, but every year they're cracking down on horse trading and barn finds in need of a title. We're at the point where you need a notary public to sign off that X sold Y the bike and a completed bill of sale.

I'm not sure if they feel like they'll be cracking down on crime or if they are just tired of dealing with us riding around on fence post dune buggies hand built by yokels.

The CB1100 looks like a fun bike. I'm a two cylinder sort of guy, but it is the best looking new retro made at the moment. The SR400 made me yawn hard when I heard about it.

Found the service record for my R60/5...

After 39 years and with 24,446 on the odometer I suspect the 24 000 miles Service is going to be a doozy! :eek2

Might not be too bad since the first services were done by a decent shop.

I 'spect you'll need to replace some rubber bits, though...

4000 mile service interval? All these years I've been using 3000 miles. That means I've done hmmm, about 15 more services than I needed. :huh

    Oh well. :deal

Hmmmm, 1973 I was in Germany... hanging out with my U.S. Army buddies... :freaky That means I was in The Father Land when my R60/5 was built, imagine that.
