I've been cycling and futzing around. Today I changed out the heated grips to new and the worn Scorpions to fresh TKC80's.

I don't think this thing will fit in my tent, but man is it comfy.

i just added my buddy Mark as a plus one, i registered him, paypal sent to parts for the garage.

i'm picking him up at the vegas airport thursday evening, trailering a bike for him, and we are going to camp at the fair grounds thursday and friday nights... but then we are moving over to DVNP for a few days because we want to catch all the big views and camp under the stars. this way we get to do a little of both.

but... that means i only get one day to ride pahrump.... i'm thinking rocky gap . anybody heading that way on Friday?

I made the mistake of checking the valve clearance on the 690 only to find a few pretty out of spec, and of course I don't have shims, so fingers crossed they show up in time.

While the KTM is torn apart, the shifter is broken on my Ducati - I think the return spring is broken... nothing like having to remove the side case cover to replace a $10 part. I don't own a car - always figured 2 bikes in SoCal would get me by, but I guess one of them should have been a Honda in that model :lol3

I don't know the trail, but I found it on my NV Benchmark. Looks interesting linking Trout canyon, Lovell Summit Rd, & Lowell Canyon to it. Tell me about Rocky Gap. What are you riding?

I'm interested. Just wondering if Adv-bike friendly or small-bike preferred? I've still not decided which bike to bring. Maybe both?!? I prefer small-bike rides with some tech. Not planning to loop thru DV from Pahrump though. I'll stop in PSR on the way home. :-)

I've been up to my ass with learning woodworking (poorly) & van conversion most of the year. I need a riding vacation!

@catfish Rocky Gap will be more fun on a small bike. Most of the route is big bike friendly, but there's a boulder field that would be a workout on a big bike (of course your talent may change that).

I have a 10mm shim kit for my 2013 690 that you can use ?, I’m NorCal so should make it to you in plenty time. PM if you need it and I’ll get it in the mail tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer, but I should get everything buttoned back up in time. Shim kit is on the way, and if it's looking close I'll have to start hitting dealers to buy individual shims... so I'm not out of options just yet.

I have been over it many times on a KLR and on a Husky 610, which is way lighter.

Tons more fun (and less work) on a lighter bike. If there's snow up there you would be wise to have a couple of friends go with you. You get stopped on an icy patch and it's a bear to get rolling again...

I wouldn't try it on a big adventure bike. I'm not saying a great rider couldn't get through there but it's not something I'd even attempt. The rock garden at the bottom and the narrow ridges... gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about trying to hustle my Tiger 800 through there.

Gentlemen, thanks for the Rocky Gap info. :-) Sounds like I should bring Ms.Beta (520RS) for this fun.

Has anyone done Cottonwood Pass south from 160, up to Mt. Potosi with the radio station towers, and then back down & west on Kingston Road? That would make a 136 mile loop if including Trout, Lovell Summit, & Rocky Gap west to east.

Just looking for fun small-bike routes. :-)

    Catfish,

That makes a great loop. I actually like the trail known as Bird Spings Road which turns into Wilson Tank Road over taking Cottonwood Pass. It starts just a few hundred yards from the Chevron Station at the intersection of 159 and 160. Both will get you to Goodsprings for a stop at the Pioneer saloon before taking Kingston Road. If you're on the little bike, there's some great trails (or a pole line road) off of Kingston Road (heading north) instead of following Kingston all the way to Sandy Valley.

Yes, that stuff is pretty fun on a smaller bike.

Hey, is this party closed to new entrants? It probably will be as soon as you see my post.
My trip to Asia just got rescheduled for the 4th time now, so I'll be around with a couple of bikes up to the trip. Hopefully I'll be up to the trip.

Let me know if I can still sign up and pay...
