Ok Boys and Girls; Joel has asked me to lead a ride on Friday. I’ve never ridden around Pharump, so this might be interesting. I’ll be on a CA plated WR250F– top speed 55mph.

Basic requirements (aside from items 1 & 2, these are just guesses. I’ve NEVER ridden these tracks before):

    1. 110mi fuel range

    2. Be able to pick up your own bike (I’m six months out of knee surgery)

    3. License plate of some kind (we’ll be on paved roads for transitions)

    4. Strong Noob skills (think sand, possibly lots of sand)

    5. Big Bike doable - with solid intermediate skills on a Big Bike

    Here’s the plan

    1. Leave the campground at 0830

    2. Ride 58 miles to lunch at the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings NV

    3. Make a 14 mile RT into Jean NV for GAS

    4. Ride 100 miles from Jean back to Phrump via wilderness area corridors

    5. We ALL get back to camp around 1700
Total miles for the day will be about 165

    Please read the fine print:

This WILL NOT be a race. I have no real idea of what the conditions will be like. I don’t ride particularly fast, but I don’t take many breaks on the trail either. I’m figuring 1.5hrs for lunch and gas – if it takes longer, we may need to adjust. Photo stops may be limited due to time constraints; we really need to be back to camp before nightfall.

    There are two BAIL OUTS:

    1. Bail001 is a 25mile, mostly pavement, ride back to Pharump

    2. Bail003 is a 20 mile, mostly graded dirt road, ride to GAS at Shoshone; then another 28 miles of Hwy back to camp

    3. Bail002 is a turn-around point

Attached is a screenshot of the route from MapSource (bail out routes are shown in RED).

Feel free to PM me with questions; but since I’ve never ridden these tracks, I probably don’t know the answer…

I plan to do that route too, and am willing to either lead or sweep. Depending on interest, I can lead the same ride on Sat, or I'll sweep for KaptSlo on Friday. I like his guidelines, so they'll apply if we go Sat too :D

    Excellent route!

With all of the rain we have had in this part of the world, lots of things have moved around. There will be rain ruts in in places they might not normally be at, so use caution on blind corners and blind rises.

There will also be a lot of 2 way traffic.

Use caution if you are on Pahrump Road near NV 160. There are areas near this road that are used for recreational shooting. There is also a spot on Lovell Canyon Road on the way to Rocky Gap that is another shooting pit.

Thanks for the Heads' Up. It would suck to retire from the military & law enforcement and THEN get shot...

If I make it, can I drop my bike and trailer at the camping area? I don't feel comfortable leaving it in a motel parking lot.

Then I guess we'll both be a bit "directionally confused."

Come along! If we get more than 6 riders, we'll need to split into two groups. You can lead the big bikes, the guys on little girl bikes (like mine) can hang back with me.

I want to ride KaptSlo's loop on Saturday. If Diego (Perro-From-Hell) don't do it on Friday, I'm sure he will join as well. And Rich (m1jeep).

Do you by chance have a .gpx for that? I'd like to maybe get in on this. But I'd like to play with the gpx if you can upload one.

    Thanks.

Bill -We probably won't make it out in time to meet your departure.

this sounds good Ers - longer ride for a full day. We won't be arriving until late morning on Friday, and thinking about doing a shorter trip up to Wheeler Pass after we get settled in camp.
