There's riding Before and after going on. Deciding which one to go on is the hard part I wish I could do more trips... when's that Christmas party?
Have you looked at the DV Daze thread? That looks like fun.

Been looking at this ride out by panamint... Has anyone done it?

Description: The Slate Range Loop starts at the Valley Wells Recreation facility just north of the Trona airport which is also north of Trona. Be sure and read the historical marker on the highway just north of the entrance to Valley Wells. It describes the adventure of the winter of 1849 that took place in Death Valley.
<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />
Also has a track to get to the start from Teagle Wash via the pinnacles and a shorter track back. In the middle of the loop you can take a side trip to Ballarat and there is also a track for an optional loop to the top of the Panamint Mountains.

This is a very difficult loop of approximately 48 miles with miles of difficult single track. It has steep down hills and lots of rocks

Some of it. It was too difficult on a loaded KLR. Post the details, I want to try it sometime...before feinstein closes the Slate Range as wilderness.

On the South Park Loop you might want to go up Pleasant rather than come all the way around and find Pleasant frozen solid and not enough gas to get back around.

You guys are killing me, I should be well on my way to Key West by the 19th
and now you start talking single track. Damn, it would be worth showing up
just to watch Rammer ride this on a 950. Hmmmmm, maybe I can do this on the way to Florida.......wonder if they have any rooms at Panamint.

Yeah, shit... I was just wondering that myself. Doable on a 950 with a noob rider???? :eek1

BTW, just got crash bars delivered today and ordered risers from dirtinblood. :freaky Scruffy, what were those tall handlebars you recommended? Need to order those too. I just PMed you with a question about those rims. Only thing missing is a good skid plate.

If this ride gets too advanced I may have to bow out. :cry Can't get a smaller bike by then and super hard single track on a 950 seems.... CRAZY! :yikes:pep

Won't be too much fun for you guys watching me pick my bike up every few feet either. :razor

Noob rider o sure :poser

Don't worry about the the single track. There will be more than one ride. I
think the ice is a bigger deal it don't care about the bike size.

Hope you can make it. :clap

It's on the way to Florida.. sort of.. did you get back to hall canyon over thanksgiving. I'd like to try it again with some lower gears. Them KTM's are
looking better every day. What I want looks alot like a 690. I'm not sure if I have the skills to ride single track with one. Is the wheel base on the 690 longer than the DRZ? The 530's look sweet but I need to roll slab at 70 plus
with a load for and hour or two. There I go dreaming again.

Looking forward to it! I "may" bring my toyhauler out there and stay for a week +, have the wife drive out with our dogs to meet me after XMas. She has to work, I don't, and basically want to disappear from the net Dec 20-Jan 2 or so.

Hey Windrat I've done this very loop many times and I even do it from home and back. It can be real tough in spots for big bikes with LOTS of rocks and a lot of side hill travel. Like Larryboy said, it would be very hard on a KLR.

I know of a guy on a DR650 and a buddy on a XRL 650 that have done it but they have each said it was a handfull. :eek1

It was the first ride I took my current riding buddy on a year ago cause he said "I want to go for a real ride, none of this 30 mile stuff!" Well we took a side trip up into DV by going up South Park Canyon all the way to the ridgeline and went over to Pleasant Canyon and back to Ballaratt and when we finally got home, at 140+ miles, he was spent but he had a huge grin on his face! :rofl Enjoy!! :clap
