Hey there, Anyone know if the actual pannier boxes themselves are compatible across models? Saw this deal on Craigslist and was wondering if I could fit the pannier on my 1974 r75/6, with the appropriate brackets, of course. https://boulder.craigslist.org/mpo/d/lafayette-bmw-pannier/7197467610.html
I know that style will fit the mono shock models with the appropriate brackets. I'm not sure if the mono shock brackets will fit to the dual sock airheads. Gian4
Anything can be made to fit if you want it too. But that style was for the later stuff using the z bars. You could make it fit if you wanted too. I have that style on my GS paralever. But the older classics on my other airheads using the standard rectangle type mounts.
The Z brackets have different mounting points at the bottom and the very back. BUT if you graft the K bike mounting rectangle and match that up with the appropriate airhead frame so you get a permanent merger between the two...and then paint it. You can make it work. Unless you have a late model airhead..then BMW made a bracket for that bag..common on late model R100RT and R100R...not the GS though.
It's that cheap because it's 1 single pannier. Good luck finding a matching one in similar condition, not to mention you'd need the brackets too. And IMO: that style bag would look silly on a /6
They are part of the Integral Case system, which includes touring cases and city cases, all use the same mounts, the Z bar mount. Commonly seen on the R100R, and the early K bikes. They won't fit a GS with the high pipe. My 1993 R100R, Bare mounts: Touring Cases: City cases:
I was speaking theoretically of course. Meaning, IF they were to fit I'd still dislike the look on a GS... They DO look good on an r100r, thanks for proving me right :)
The integrals look OK on an early K, but are kinda bulbous. But that geometry makes them hold quite a lot.
