So a lovely ride over to Bayonne, NJ.

    Ahhhhhhhhh, New Jersey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just like everyone thinks it looks ! :lol3

This is the Route 9 Truck Route.

I know, I am not a truck, but it was the closest bridge going to where we were headed.
Or should I say, the FREE closest bridge.

That other bridge yonder is the Puloski Skyway, which is Route 1.
They waited to do construction on it until after the Super Bowl in nearby Meadowlands.
You know where the New York Giants and the New York Jests play Football in New Jersey !

Out of all the chaos I pick out this sign with one of my Muffler Men on it.
The one in Jersey City practically under the Puloski Skyway at Wilson's Carpet that I posted back on page 69.

This is the Newark Bay Bridge, which is part of the New Jersey Turnpike, NJTP.
It is the closest bridge to where we were going, but you have to pay the Toll.

The train bridge was not an option ! :D

And whenever I see NJTP I always think of NJ Toilet Paper !
    I don't know why.
But hey, It's New Jersey !

    This was our actual destination.

We have a cruise planned here shortly and I wanted to know exactly where we needed to be dropped off and picked up by our children.

Royal Caribbean has made the Port Terminal Pier one of their boarding places.
This use to be a Navy Pier, which they now call Cape Liberty Cruise Port.
I think they chose this for their Quantum Class Cruise Ships, which are the largest in the world, and this port will handle their size.

Out on this pier withing short walking distance is the Teardrop Memorial I also posted on page 69.

And the view of NYC has become blocked by this nice chain link fence with barbed wire on top.

Next stop was to check out the Bayonne Bridge construction project.

I also posted the Bayonne Bridge back on page 69 where I mentioned that they were going to raise the roadway on the bridge around 65 feet.

    This is that project.
The last time we were here was almost three years ago ! :eek1

    Doesn't seem that long ago.

You can see the progress behind these houses.

The current roadway is where the green fencing is.
The bridge is being used as they do construction next to and around it.
The new approaches are next to the old one and the roadway will go above the existing one on the bridge structure.

These houses look familiar to anybody ?

Here is a YouTube Video showing Tom Cruise coming out of "his" house right here in Bayonne, NJ during the War of the Worlds Movie from 2005.

They apparently rebuilt the houses after the aliens destroyed them.

You can see they are working on the bridge too.
I guess repairing the damage from the Aliens !!!!! :lol3

We talked to some locals and they said they have been working on this for two years already.

They also wanted to know "Why are you wearing those jackets?" :huh

Because they save your hide if you should have an accident.
    And, "Can you see me?"

    That's why.

Miss America Diner in Jersey City.

In business since 1942 the original diner was demolished in 1958 and this building was built.

This building is a 1950's Jerry O'Mahony Diner Car, they were in business until 1952.
Wikipedia says this is a 1942 diner!
    Whom do you believe.

The car was built in Elizabeth, NJ, but Jerry O'Mahony was originally from Bayonne right next door !
A little history on Jersey Pie !

Here is a nice write up on NJ.com with some pictures of the inside.

Another website Jersey City, Past and Present also has this as a 1940's diner.

Oh well, it is a nice looking diner no matter how old it is !
