BD59EC13-9FA3-4DA6-AF78-3610002A0F36.jpeg Four of us left Perth today, heading for Townsville to visit a mate of mine.
We intend to go via Birdsville and two of the guys (my brother and his mate Tony) will be splitting off after Birdsville to visit some mates of Tony’s.

Me and my mate AD will go onto Townsville and then meet the other two later before heading home via . . well, we’re aren’t sure which way yet, but we all agree we aren’t interested in the built up areas of the east coast.
So, no Byron, Sydney or Melbourne.
Hopefully we will fit in a visit to Kangaroo is. (finally !)

My brother is a mad keen photographer and I expect he’ll write a proper trip report when we all get back to Perth, probably after the Border Run.

If the mods are happy, I thought I’d just post a pic or two each day here in the Oz forum and if anybody is nearby and want to catch up for a beer and coffee they can get in touch with me.

I am traveling light and posting from my iPhone only, so if anybody wants to catch up it’d be easier for me if you just text me. 0411 55 6927

So, tonight, after a shitty wet day we have holed up in Coolgardie in a Motel.

Here’s Tony and AD getting dry by the heater in the motel restaurant.

    Cheers
    Andrew. aka Eaglebeak.

    :rofl

Not with my brother along on the trip.
He’s already saying he’d rather Motel the whole bloody trip !
He’s been outvoted, we’ll be free camping as soon as the bloody rain stops.
Rained all day again today. Mostly tail winds though, getting good economy.
I pushed them as far as Madura today, I had said last night in response to a question from John that we’d try to make Eucla today, his face was a picture ! :D

    Will do.
Too bloody wet to bother much today, plus the Nullarbor is a bit . . Ho hum, for me.

The two little Honda’s are pretty loaded up, especially up high on the seats, so they may provide some picture opportunities later. :evil

Enjoy your trip Andrew , I look forward to reading the ride report .

It is making me considerably envious seeing here on ADV the Grey nomads on 2 wheels enjoying their freedom to roam where ever they choose when ever they like . A bit over a years wait for me to be able to do the same .

    Well, rain and more rain.
Brother informed us today that he’s prepared to stay in Motels the entire trip !
    We soon put him right.
    No bloody way.

But tonight we got to Penong and it was me that suggested we pull stumps.
I have never been in the pub so I thought it be good to have a few quiet ones there.

The other three are talking about wanting to go down the Eyre Peninsula. We’ve all done it before but the west side is pretty cool so that may be tomorrow’s plan.

I did tell my mate we’d be in Townsville in about 10-12 days from last Monday, so I hoping for no more bloody itinerary changes.
Sometimes traveling alone is better. :D

At this rate the bakery in Farina will be closed !

We had clear skies for this arvo but the weather may catch us again tomorrow.
Hopefully it’ll be dry north of Maree, whenever we get there ! :dirtdog

Mostly tail or side winds today, sitting on anywhere from 110-115kph by the GPS.
The bike speedos were optimistically showing about 8 kph higher.
The Wee-Storm today was getting ~18.5kms/litre, the GS1200 about the same and the little Honda’s (CB500XA’s) are getting about 10-12% better economy. Which is pretty impressive for little overloadedbikes at those speeds I reckon.

Good’ay Dave, I hope you are doing okay ?

Yeah, I saw the news reports on a Motel TV.
I haven’t heard of him and knew nothing about his previous attempt.

So, the first SOLOIST to paddle across.
    A big effort.

What surprised me was his sleeping pod was in front of the paddle position, not behind like Pete Bray’s (solo across the Atlantic) or the two young guys that paddled across the Tasman in a double a few years back.
I didn’t see any footage of his paddle action but I’d have thought it would interfere with a good technique.
(I was going to use the term, “good stroke” but I know what you lot are like :lol3)

Oh yeah, and in answer to your implied question Dave . . No bloody way !
I’m too old now and more importantly, too cowardly for an effort of that magnitude.
