Looks the this lookout's better days are in the past! A few here and there when not used anymore, have be refurbished and are now used at F.S. rentals for the general public. This one, not so much. I don't often see lookouts is this bad of condition. Usually, the lookouts I visit could still be used, or all that's left is the old foundation. None-the-less, thanks for sharing. Bet it's a great view!
Thanks to this thread, I found a tower near me! Olson Tower in Monongahela National Forest in WV. Couldn't have asked for a better day. On the way, I had to get out the camera... You have to love the West Virginia freeways to nowhere! Nice cut. Little self portrait action. Headed up the tower. The distortion in these pics is from my 10.5mm lens and it's 180 degree field of view. At the top. (can't get into the shack at the top) High Anxiety anyone? View north. View west. View south.
Well, here's one i used in the Upstate SC Tag-0-Rama. Hobbysville tower, Spartanburg County, SC. I didn't even try to see if it was climbable. Probably not 1/2 mi from I-26 and can't be seen from there. N 34.70825 W 81.94882
My bike at the same tower. It is tradition among my friends to take a picture of any new bike at the tower, I'm not sure where the other ones went though.
Ritter Butte, we had to go around a gate and climb up a two track to get to the top......on balding road tires.
Me too. I've got photos of all 3 bikes at just about the same spot. Same for the covered bridge just down the hill from there.
This old tower is really grown in. You can just see the legs to the right of the bike. West of Thunder Bay Ontario Ca. Shadow of the tower
During a ride with Motorcycle Classics magazine around Elkhart Lake, WI. Not sure if it was a fire lookout, but close enough.
