OK, we don't get hurricanes in Arizona, but Jimena was pushing moisture our way and stirring up the atmosphere igniting thunderstorms in the valley and on the hills.

This is actually the 2nd attempt at Crown King in two weeks. I tried to get fancy last week, and unable to find a trail that exists on the map, I led my crew across the low desert in 110-120 degree temperatures. See that report here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=500363&page=2.

This week, 4 brave souls would follow me once again into the hills north of Phoenix.

    Javalina - XR650R
    Cyberdos - DR650
    Jeremy - CRF450R
    Russ - CRF450R
    Nightstalker - CRF450X

Cyberdos is the only one to receive the "Ride your bike to the event" award.

Nightstalker is proud of his recent 450x purchase. It's a cheater bike for sure!

With scenery like this, it's hard to stay focused on the trail.

The trail is easy in places.

    Not so easy in others.

Jeremy displays the proper hill restart technique.

Is that the road that starts at the horsethief basin rec area? I took that road up to Crown King in a 2wd chevy truck about 10yrs ago. The road will come out in Prescott valley past Crown King right?

I really can't say how difficult the trail was, I couldn't see out my wet, fogged up goggles.

:bluduh That was the one. The one that twisted my lever like a pretzel.

Everything looks so flat and non-threatening there. It was anything but.

    Keep it coming. :lurk

    I have done this ride on KLR's, YZ426, CRF450R, XR650R, and ATV's.
The trail is never the same and what was once an easy section gets washed out, rutted, filled in with rocks, etc...., and this time up was one of the nastiest I have ever seen. For Cyberdos to do it on his DR was impressive. He just never gave up and kept plugging away.
