AZT2 and I rode our KTM Adventures down to Green Valley, AZ to participate in the South East Arizona Touring (SEAT) Riders annual dual sport ride. Our Saturday ride is in red and Sunday is in dark magenta.

Our ride would begin on Saturday, with a Nightstalker route from Phoenix to Green Valley...

AZT2 and I met at a mutually convenient gas station to top off and head for Florence, AZ.

We took some slow and go back roads from Mesa down to Florence. Topping off the tanks in Florence, I chatted it up with 2 Harley riders about our plans to cross Mt Lemmon. They told a recent tale of some guy in a 4x4 who got stuck in the muddy snow melt for two days before rescue teams could get him out. Good thing I made a plan B... We left for the Florence-Kelvin Highway..

Barkersville Road, Mt Lemmon in the distance.

9000+ feet above sea level, it's been a wet winter in AZ.

More gas in Oracle and we vote for Plan B, east to San Manuel and then south along the San Pedro River.

20 miles of dirt road into our San Pedro river alternative route, we run into Road Closed barricades, WTF!! Well, it's 25 miles forward or who knows how many miles to retreat to Oracle and find a route around the west side of Mt Lemmon. Nervously we pressed on, wondering what horriffic road disasters await.

Road conditions are generally good and the scenery remains spectacular.

Without much ado, we successfully came out on the Tucson side.

Following my planned route, we came upon another set of Road Closed signs, this time for a more valid reason.

After the stream crossing, it was all blacktop to Green Valley. 250 miles and 7 hours. Checked into our room, headed out for some grub and frosty libations, and HOT TUB!

Sunday we awoke to chilly 40 degree morning temps and made our way to the rendezvous point. The gathering had already begun.

We climbed into the surrounding mountains.

Small bikes right on our tail.

A fine mix of blacktop and easy dirt roads.

Riding along, we come across Bob from Sierra Vista, frantically waving his arms in the air. Bob picked up a horseshoe nail in his back tire and needed some assistance. The ATR Team (Arizona Trail Riders) to the rescue!!

Bob was stopped right in front of a Border Patrol agent, who was enjoying the show.

His rim strip was also missing which needed to be addressed.

Have no fear, we have a fix for that!

AZT2 was kind enough to start the hand pumping.

The BMW galactic battle cruisers showed up and lent us their compressor.

Wrestling the wheel back into position.

    Ready for departure.

Next up, LUNCH STOP!! This days lunch was served up by none other than the WORLD FAMOUS Ed Hertfelder!! Pictured on the right.

Everyone was giddy with stories from the ride.

And busy eating sandwiches supplied by Iron Horse Motorcycles, Arizona's Premier BMW dealer. You can find them at http://www.ironhorsemotorcycles.com/. Thank you for your support!!!

Anyone who has read Ed Hertfelder's Duct Tapes column in Cycle, Dirt Rider, and Trail Rider will recognize him on the trail or off.

All I can say is, Ed is one gracious celebrity!!

Now that we've finished eating and hob knobbing with all the famous people, it was time to begin our 4 hour ride back to Phoenix!
