It was kinda sorta raining on and off this week in the greater Phoenix area. That combined with the possibility of lower temps and cloud cover insulating us from the violence of the sun spurred a last minute call for inmates to unite and ride some low desert single track. I promised "not so hard" single track, and it turns out that's a misnomer. If you don't ride a lot of single track trails, they are all hard.

3 riders took me up on my challenge and joined me at the Boulder OHV area northwest of Phoenix.

    Cyberdos - KTM 380 - yep, that's a 2 smoker.

RickyD - Gas Gas 250 - yep, another 2 smoker.

    Jerry K - KTM 300 - Holy 2 smokes, another!!!
    Nightstalker - Honda 450x - the only non-exotic, 4 stroker.

To some, these are very fun trails.

To others, it's another Nightstalker death march.

Jerry doesn't care what trail he's on, he's always got a smile on his face!

Temps were in the high 80's, pretty unusual for Phoenix in July. More unusual was the 80% humidity! It made the conditions quite uncomfortable.

    Trails were dry :(

    Skies were threatening.

I thought the waterfall trail might be a good place to go and look for some clear liquidy goodness.

    Alas, it was dry.

    Ricky D runs right though.

Once we got everyone up, we took a little break.

Some easy trail to the next obstacle.

The next hill left riders littered across its face.

    Cyberdos was totally knackered!

We got Cyberdos back into the vertical position, and made a bee line for the trucks.

    Crazy how it rains here.
We parked just down the road at mm8.5 at 5:30am, it had just gotten soaked from a thunderstorm and all of the trails north and west of there were nice and wet. It rained on us a few times yesterday morning, vision was the biggest issue with the goggles fogging and the humidity was brutal but it was cool (for Az this time of year). Thankfully we were done before the sun came out because it got hot when it did.

The first ten miles or so were great. Even the waterfall trail wasn't all that bad and I was following along having a blast. But then that one hill came up and when I went down the first time it nearly took everything in me to get the bike back up and going. :huh

The second time I went down I was done! A deadly combination of me not haven ridden single track in months compounded by the humid air and me not haven eaten breakfast made for a very precarious situation. After we regrouped at the top of that hill and we started heading back to the trucks I got a second wind but by that time I had already gone through 90% of the water in my 2l camelbak! :eek1

Terry, my friend, my pal, I don't think I'll be ready for another one of these anytime soon. I really need to get in better shape for this stuff. Even if you say it was a "C" trail.

    I aint buying it. :lol3

Looks like great fun.... However I'm kinda spooked at the single tracks this time of year as there are way tooo many stick's with rattles on one end and teeth on the other.:ear Even ran across a Gila Monster last week, gave him a wide swing.
I was doing the same thing out my backdoor in Wickenburg. Constellation road to Castle creek with a few zig/zag's along the way. Will post pic's just as soon as I'm allowed !

I did 30 miles of single track out at Wildcat this morning. Some of your favorite trails.

That day at Wildcat was a lot of fun. (specially since that was VFR870's bike I was crashing :lol3)

    Saturday, not so much. :cry

I'm gonna start jogging in the morning. I really enjoy the challenge of your rides but not if I'm gonna be whooped half way through it and spoil the fun for the rest of you.
