Meeting at McDonalds on Cave Creek just south of the 101 @ 8:00AM.

This is an expedition ride, so expect the worst and hope it doesn't get any harder than that! We'll be exploring the purple route.

Taking 37 north from 41 and heading east it deadends at a ranch a few miles in. the road is fine if rocky. A nice side trip but you will be forced to turn around at the ranch.

Two brave adventurers showed up for today's expedition ride.

    AZCacti - KTM950SE
    Blue Streak - DRZ400

The ride out was cold this morning, not Minnesota cold, but, pretty damn cold for Phoenix. As we gained some distance from civilzation we also gained altitude. There was some small pockets of snow in the shadows and ice where the water trickled across the road. There is a water crossing just before the campground whose greasy slimey algae covered concrete has claimed many ADVRiders in warmer weather. I carefully approached the ford and partway across I heard the telltale sound of metal grinding across the concrete. Safe on the far side, I turned to find my compatriots in distress!

Blue Streak had gone down HARD and his ankle was hurting! We got him situated and turned our attention to AZCacti's 950. There was a curious looking liquid leaking from his bike.

Damn! The crash had punched his rear brake through his clutch cover!

    That's frigin hilarious.

Dudes! My ankle is pretty jacked up. I figured out what that stabbing pain is on the inside of my ankle. The gear shift lever landed right on it just above the ankle bone. It must have caused a lot of lateral impact pressure when it hit. I'm very sore on all sides of the ankle. And it's very painful with certain movements. I don't think anything is broken, but I'm sure I tugged on some tendons or ligaments. I'll probably go get x-rays just in case.

What a day. It started out bad. Shoulda stayed home.......naa.

Wish me luck at the clinic.

We had to get all the bikes on the same side of the icy ford. I volunteered for the job. As I got the Zook into position, the guys tossed some dirt and debris on the ice to aid traction, thanks guys!!
