I gathered up the crew today for a ride to "The Island", as it is labeled on a few of my maps.

    Javalina - KLR650
    Yardstick - KTM625
    Nightstalker - KTM950

Yellow track is from today's ride. Red is from last week.

As usual, we started at McDonalds, ummmmm delicious bacon, egg and cheese biscuit...OK, I'm back. Forgot to take a starting picture.

Last stop for gas. We topped off for a long ride today. I think this was Javalina's old parole officer checking up on him.

Actually, the Sheriff was telling us that they had to airlift a quad rider off New River Mesa last Sunday. We had just been there the day before! I wish I could have been airlifted off that muddy, rocky, mess.

Anyway, the ride up to our turn-off was pretty dull, graded dirt road. It got interesting in a hurry though.

Javalina scored the first spill of the day.

With the bike off the side of the road, it took the two of us to get it back up and pointed in the right direction again.

It was muddy, rocky, two track. Not too bad though.

That's FS602 in the distance. We'll be there later today.

Preparing for departure. We continued on to find the trail's end.

Javalina had another little incident and his KLR needed a little fine tuning.

    The Campsite.

I was just amazed that we were essentially following two tracks of pushed down grass. How cool is that??

We found this buggy just sitting there by itself in the middle of the road. Oh where oh where could the owner be??

    Some tough trail.

    Yardstick makes it look easy.

We really didn't see anything that looked like a way out, and according to my (lying) GPS, the trail we were looking for was back about 1/4 mile. We looked and looked and looked for it, but couldn't find it. Going back took us up the nasty downhills, oh my!

I know, some of you won't believe this, and even when you see the pictures, Nightstalker crashes too! Yardstick stopped to take some pictures of Javalina and I coming up the hill and I managed to run my 950 right into him! He did a great job of cushioning my impact. You'll have to wait to see his pictures.

But, until then, here's a funny story... I'm sitting on my bike, on the kickstand. The guys tell me that I have brush stuck on my boot. Being a short fat guy, I can't really bend over to pull it off, so I swing my leg up onto the handlebars, reach forward to pull off the brush, and promptly fall over. That was a good laugh for sure!

    And I'm away.

Next stop FS602, the SuperHero Loop. On my map, this makes a nice looking loop from Seven Springs Road to Bloody Basin Road. In real life, well, we'll see.

    It starts nice enough.

When we reached the split, we found this... FOILED! BASTARDS!

We returned to Seven Springs Road. I took a scenic detour at the junction. It was an interesting climb.

We made it too Bloody Basin Road which is part of the Great Western Trail.

The Great Western Trail splits off Bloody Basin Road and continues to Dugas. The hour was late and we wanted to get back to Phoenix before sundown. The road to Dugas will have to wait for another ride.
