OK, so it was like a chilly 90 degrees when I left the house at 5AM this morning to hook up with some ADVrider brothers about an hour away.

This is what the end of the ride looked like though...

I hate movies that jump around the timeline, so let me return to the beginning and get this party started.

A bunch of guys were planning a West ride in the Regional forums that I had been keeping an eye on since its inception. Believing that I'd probably have to work this weekend, envious of the freemen, I prayed to the work warlords to release me of my duties. The Gods answered my prayers and after a few last minute checks, I was on my way to the Cowboy Cafe.

Storms raged west of Phoenix, however, there was no rain in our future. It made for some nice sunrise shots though.

Next stop, Cowboy Cafe. The team was already assembled.

    Eric - KTM 990
    Clark - BMW 650
    Shelby - WeeStrom
    Brain - DR650
    TZ - KTM 950

A quick bite to eat and we were off to "Scenic Loop" Road. A fine piece of road that runs from Wickenburg to Yarnell.

    Shelby airs down the Wee.

We met up with Bob, from Prescott, on his XR650 at the start of Wagoner Road.

Starting our ascent into the mountains.

Some would say this is the hardest part of Wagoner Road.

    Almost to Crown King.

And can you believe I didn't take a single picture at Crown King! Well, I guess now I have a reason to go back again.

Crown King had a big fire last month. Alot of burnt land all around on the way out. It doesn't show all that well in this shot though.

We're taking the easy way back to I-17 and Phoenix. There's a road, Peck Mine, that heads north that I've been eyeing up on the map for some time now. Today would be the day I find out where it goes!

Cattle block my way in the distance.

There's mineshafts and claims all over the place back here.

The road to Crown King is in the distance.

Peck Mine Road. It was so awesome. Really steep in places, but good traction.

Proof that I closed the gate. It wouldn't stay closed for long.

6.5 miles and 30 minutes later, I had my first fall of the day. The road had turned to shit in a hurry, and I'm riding solo, so I guess I'll go ahead and exercise some discretion. We'll take a break and walk ahead to see what happens.

This creek crossing is probably doable, if you can lift and carry your bike. GPS says I'm about 2.5 miles from the Senator Highway and I'm DENIED! Bastards!!

I had to turn around and return the way I came. There was a turnoff for Desoto Mine, that looked like it could possibly go somewhere, but I was hot and tired, the expedition was over.

    Some pictures on the return.

    Tight steep switchback.

The road was so steep in places, that I nearly lost my ability to stop. I'd much rather be going up!
