Didn't know JAWA built boxers. If I'd seen one of those back in the day, I'd have bought it.

A BMW boxer (I think) modified by Ludwig Apfelbeck. The name brings up a bunch of OHC designs.

In my cylinder head scraping days, I used to think building a shallow V out of the R engine would get a few inches extra clearance. I was howled down.

This looks looks the guy to go to for that. :)

Mmmm, I do have a spare engine....

According to my FB records, I snapped this some time before the 24th May 2011 (obviously couldn't use FB in China) in Shanghai.

I think Mike Krauser experimented with that concept (not in this pic), he also produced 4 valve heads for BMWs and his own frame.

This one may qualify. They were somewhat common- at least not unheard of- in the late 60s and 70s. I took the photo at the Four Winds BMW rally in 1977.

These were taken by an German ex-GF when she was an exchange student in China around 1981 or 1982. Not a pleasant experience, I recall her saying. She said she understood what her parents told her about living under Hitler. But she smiled at the boys and they let her take these photos. Strictly forbidden to photograph Chinese military forces.
