I live in NYC and I've been wanting to head down to the pine barrens and ride in the sand. I just put a new rear tire Mitas e-07 and the front still has the TKC 80 that came with the bike. What time are you guys thinking of riding down tomorrow ?

warned not to park a motorcycle trailer at the boat launch parking lot

that is really odd - I use my motorcycle trailer to transport my kayak when I go on
the lake at Assunpink. Not sure how they can make it illegal to leave a "motorcycle"
trailer. I suspect it's the fishermen complaining and the cop listening to them.

I have never seen any specific rules which prohibit this - I'll take a closer look tomorrow.

Exactly. I used to haul my bike on a jetski trailer.

That is ridiculous! There is no way a public parking area at a boat launch can discriminate against a motorcycle trailer. That cop was just busting your balls. You should have gotten his badge number and reported him.
Anyway, you should have said that your bikes actually can be ridden on water. Like a jet ski. That would have shut him up.

Also, I'll be leaving Metuchen at about 10 a.m., so if anyone wants to ride down with me, they could meet me at Cross Country at 10.
Depending on how much time I have, I'll either go 130 or the Thruway.

Curious what the conditions were like

No sugar sand that is for sure !!! Most of the roads east of 539 were extremely wet - lots of
puddles and sloppy conditions. West of 539 - things were better - sand has been tamped down
and drained well; Should be perfect in a day or so.

Was a nice hooky day in the Pine Barrens. Bill and Gerry, thanks for meeting me at Assunpink so I could get there easier from work.
Gerry, thanks for keeping it kinder and gentler in Colliers!

Great group of big bikes and riders at the start. A 1190 KTM, an S10, a BMW, and my AT. Also Trevor had his little Honda.

It got "interesting" after the lunch break; we headed out to Forked River Mountain where there some
monstrous puddles. Almost all of us managed to stay dry. I think "Guaro" had a really cold ride back
    to NYC.....

Well, sorry I had to head back home. A little work, and a wife with a little vertigo.

As far as the conditions go, they couldn't have been better today.
My thermometer hit 57 degrees after lunch, and the rain made the sand perfect. No dust. Firmly packed in most places. Puddles were nicely formed but manageable.

Thanks again, Bill, Edgar, Trevor, and Gerry for the company. A real treat to get a ride in like this in January!

That old car looks like a great future tag spot!!!!!
Regarding the parking of a trailer At Assunpink's ramp. I think there is a rule for WMA's regarding the "use" (parking) at a WMA ramp/lot. It requires a ramp permit or a valid hunting/fishing license displayed in the window of the vehicle.
Feel free to check me on this, but I believe it's true.
I'm glad you guys had a good, safe time!!!!

Looks like you all had a great day out.

In http://www.nj.gov/dep/fgw/wmaregs.htm at the end it says:

    Boat Ramp Maintenance Permits

Any vehicle used to transport or launch a vessel or water conveyance on the following WMAs must have affixed to the lower corner of the driver’s side rear window a Boat Ramp Maintenance Permit or a photocopy of a current hunting, fishing or trapping license showing the Conservation ID Number (CID#). Identifying information other than the CID# may be blacked out to protect your identity.
    ...

It says nothing else about vehicles other than that they must be registered and are restricted to established public roads and parking areas.

    It also says:
New Jersey residents 70 years and older are not required to obtain a boat ramp maintenance permit and need no license, but must affix to their window proof of age, such as a former license displaying your date of birth.
so some of you are safe anyway:-).
