Anyone going to this? PNW Dual Sport Summer Opener 2019 Me and a couple friends are, first time. 2 x DRZ400s and an XR400. Just registered today. Looking forward to it...
yep, myself and two buddies will be heading over from walla walla at noon on Thursday! lets hope the forecast changes a little bit...
There will be 4 of us from Olympia. 2 Honda 250 rally's,1 Ktm 690 and a drz 400. Don't get behind the 690, I just put a brand new tractionator tire on it and it will be throwing a lot of mud.
100 dollars to attend an event? No thanks. I love ADV's "unofficial" events more and more every time I go to one.
It was $85.20 with tax (for me). Price includes a tshirt, dinner for 4 nights, and camping fees. Additionally, they include some gpx tracks of the area. The cost is cheaper than just the cost of staying at many campgrounds. This is my first year attending this event. I've attended the previous 2 Touratech rallies. They cost a bit more and allowed me to pitch a tent in a bumpy field. I got a tshirt in 2017 but not 2018. No dinners included. I'll have a better idea as to how they compare after this week.
Hey, Jesse F doesn’t have a real job. Oh.. he’s a photographer..... that pays so well.... How else is he going to support himself? Got to give him credit for coming up with the idea!
I tried to tell Jesse a long time ago via facebook that many of the trails and roads in that general high mountain area are still going to be buried by snow this early in the season. He didnt seem to be too receptive to my input, even though I explained to him I've been riding and camping in those areas for decades. Maybe he'll have some local lower elevation stuff set up for everyone as an alternative?
Here now, its Saturday. This has been a nice event for those that are self directed and can go out and explore new areas. The only gpx tracks that were included were from a ride Jesse did last fall, which means there wasn't much info. The expectation was that once here, we'd get social and link up with others who maybe know the area. That didn't work out that way for me and my friends, but we did link up with a couple others who were also new to the area. We've found there's plenty of riding and exploring to do in the area, from single track (easier to advanced) to gravel roads. There's plenty to ride over a couple days. Dinner was included last night and tonight. Now sure what's on the menu tonighr but last night was a Costco style large hot dog, soda, and small bag of chips. Minimally acceptable in my opinion. Better than nothing. I'd never ridden the area before, so it was worth it for me. Not nearly as well organized or as big as Touratech.
This was our experience also. We did, however, meet up with some great people on the trail. Carl and Amy apparently have a cabin in the area and showed us around. Our group was dynamic and picked people up along the way. It was great. We had less luck finding people on Saturday, but still had a great day of riding. The noise from the party raging until well past 1 a.m. required ear plugs to get rest. I must be an old man.
The ‘website’ and announcement, links etc etc were some of the more confusing things I have worked through for some time. Did something happen this past weekend? Too funny
Jesse did mention he plans to do the Summer Opener next year in the same spot. He also said something about doing more scouting beforehand. Personally, the riding was great but it'd be even better a little later so the snow can completely melt. On Sunday we were 35 miles out and got turned around by snow. Overall I'm glad I went and won't rule out attending again.
