I started the thread ... but did NOT close the poll.... maybe it closes its self after some amount of time?
Tried but don't see a way to re-open?

otherwise I can start a new poll exactly like this one since a couple of people would like to change their answers. After 4 years it's maybe time for a renewal?

I think this was a causality of the forum software migration. The posts carried over, but a lot of the images and polls did not make the cut. I remember seeing other long running threads with the same problem. Can you see if you can start a new poll with this thread? Not that any one is interested, but mine changed from 20k miles no failure to 1 failure 35k miles.

If a new poll is started perhaps it could include a reminder for those who have experienced stator failure to be sure to report it to the NHTSA noting that a number of other manufacturers' bikes have been the subject of recalls due to charging systems failures.

already asked before a mod if this could be changed but didn't get a follow up. I'd start a new thread if JR is on board

I'd like to add mine to your poll if and when you either reopen this one or start another.

New stator, series R/R and new battery on an '09 f800gs @ 27600 miles. Stator was shorted top ground. No extra load that I know of during its life ('new to me bike') other than GPS, and then 30W of leds added 500 miles ago.

    2007.

I'm actually going to pre-emptively swap out the stator, and the rotor too if I can find a new-version one (not holding my breath). Planning on a 10K-mile trip this summer, and I'm not wanting to be thumbing a ride to the nearest BMW dealer from the middle of BFE. Already had that fun when the rear wheel bearing failed 20 miles from the nearest cell signal in SE Idaho. :dirtdog

Rode a F800ST Around Europe in 2007, so yes they were around. US release might have been a year later.

    2010 F650GS 45,000 k (24,000 miles) fail.
It was actually starting to fail last year with about 35,000k on the odo

2010 F800GS 57,000k now showing erratic activity but charging system functional.

Bought over a 50,000 km F800GS (2013) recently, owner mentioned voltage from alternator not at max efficiency, he replaced a new battery before handing over to me and gave me the previous working battery.

3 weeks later I managed to installed a voltmeter to monitor, voltage at 12.0~12.1 without load, still no problem starting, 12.4-12.5 while riding.

about 3 days later had difficulty starting but still able to start with some tries, voltage at 11.6~11.8 without load, 12.0~12.2 while riding.

Got a battery charger and charged the spare battery to max, installed and voltage started at 12.5~12.6 without load, 13.0 ~ 13.2 while riding.

3 days later voltage started to drop and cycle all over again.

    Should be the stator issue?

Any recommended online shop to get a replacement stator? and do I need to replace the regulator / rectifier along with it?

My previous bike, 2008 F658GS just went south at around 84000 km. The stator was completely baked, the current owner says.

We bought a stator from RMStator back when our F650GS (twin) needed it.
