I found a similar road in the Washington's Palouse country that took me, eventually, into Idaho. The road went on for miles and, down in the bottom areas, it was quite silty. I almost went down a time or two. Eventually I popped out in a little town and there were no paved streets. When I got out to a hard surface road, I could see the Tetons.

and yes Mikegc there's plenty of great roads to explore in the washinton, oregon, idaho backroads.
It's the road heading south out of Badlands national Park heading toward Kansas. Ten hours, saw maybe 5 cars.

yes, and inland. as we approached chile from bolivia via Uyuni.
