Hey Prescott riders from here in NE MN. Down to 1 bike now after parting with an '02 1150GS and a DR650 - replaced those with a Guzzi V85TT - still a big bike, but good for a 64 yr old with a fake hip. After our 13 year old birddog runs out of trail, my bride and I are planning (hoping for many) years of snowbirdding and learning-up on your area, after having spent many 1990's Feb weeks in the Mesa area. Took a car trip for 2 days to Payson which was far mobetter than Phoenix heat, congestion and smog. Anyhow, I'll be lurking about this thread over the next 6 months of winter here - cheap winter therapy.

Welcome to the area, you will have a great time on the Guzzi around here. Hang in there, you are never far from a blue sky day.

Don't want to stir any forum-mods angst but have a few more local questions:
Ma and I are likely to end up buying a low-cost modular home in one of the 55+ places - any riders here familiar with any of those in the Prescott/Prescott Valley/Payson areas? These areas look to offer many hundreds of miles of great adv riding, interesting places and scenery.

Have researched some, read reviews etc - opinions vary as usual.
Such dialog here might be best through 'PM/Conversation' and we'd sure appreciate any local opinions. Thanks.

    No riding here today :(

My recommendation is to come here, rent a place and look around for 6 months. There's a big difference in the areas you mentioned and you left out a few lower cost possibilities you might like. I'd also spend a lot of time doing searches online.

There are some decent long/short term VRBO rentals here.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I have so much to be thankful for, the spot on the planet I live is one of them. Thanksgiving morning dawned with temps in the low 40s and lite rain. The low, fast moving clouds made beautiful skies and I decided to take a quick ride in the backyard. Hope you all enjoy the crappy pics from my 5 year old phone!

20191128_113306.jpg There is an 8k foot mountain in this pic! I only took pics on my return trip so this is looking toward home. I got dumped on on the way back!

20191128_115639.jpg The clouds dropped even lower, absolutely stunning scene. Too bad my camera can't fully capture the beauty of it.

The dirt was perfect everywhere except the last 2 miles.

Shinko 505 cheater worked great until the mud. Prior to the mud, it stuck to the wet rocks like glue.

    Great stuff Couchtater.

I scratched my ride down there today. Glad you enjoyed and made pictures.

I got a ride in just before the snow, it is here now. Bleh, trails are snowed in for a while.
That is my backyard trail, it skirts the base of the Mingus Mts on the PV side. On clear days, Woodchute and Mt Hickey dominate the landscape.

We had about 10" on the ground this morning however, the air temp is once again in the 40s and melting this mess away!

Anytime you would like, I am always ready to ride. Will travel for trails...

That side of the highway is graded forest rd, the north side where I rode is only marginally more fun being a 50" trail. Either one has lots of side routes...

Drop me a line next time you're out that way. I usually ride alone but a recent experience in a deep canyon after dark has me rethinking that.
