Recently moved to Camp Verde. Been doing some exploration around the local area. Mostly the two track stuff, a little single track here and there. Loving it! I'm riding a 2018 KTM 500EXC-F. May not be doing too many rides until after Christmas, but will be checking back here often, and I'll post up if I'm heading out.

Thanks for the link! I was curious as to the what, why, when, who....

I dropped a few rocks down the hole and timed between 15 and 17 seconds before I couldn't hear it anymore. Didn't think they hit the bottom, the sound of bouncing off the sides just slowly faded.

If you are interested in mines you can get an overlay of the mine database for Google earth. I like to use it to see if the mines are interesting enough to visit. You can also get a USGS topo maps overlay for Google earth. Very handy for planning rides. Here are the links:

The weather was perfect for a ride today! East side of the Arizona Black Hills, also known as Mingus.

The clouds were low and thick, fog was moving through the canyons intermittently. As I was looking around at yet another abandoned mine shaft the clouds parted in an unbelievable show of natures beauty.

I have wanted to ride/hike up to the railroad trestle that clings to the side of the steep cliffs on the south side of 89A. Found it!

I did climb up to the abandoned shaft but didn't enter or take any pics. Someone definitely tried to block the entrance but vandals and other unsavory types have pulled down the rocks and wood. You can crawl right inside.

Some interesting looking rocks strewn about in the tailings.

Here are a couple of shots of the North face of Mingus. You can just barely make out TR105, one the most gnarly DH MTB trails in the area. It is on the top left face.

I believe that "railroad tressel" is actually a water pipe. Is it across the canyon from the Verde Central mine on 89A? As for the mine, I'd like to know the location. Can you provide Lat/Long coordinates? I am interested in mines and have been to most of the mines on Mingus that I can find on the USGS topo maps.

The next time I am out that way I am going to bring some hiking shoes and climb up to the trestle/water pipe. Didn't care for a hike in the rain and moto boots.

I was at that location a couple years ago because it looked like there was a mine dump there but I didn't find a mine. The USGS topo maps and the Mineral Resources Data System don't show a mine there either. This was the rocky area just past the end of the trail. I wonder if maybe you hiked a ways to get to the mine?

I'm positive it was a mine. Horizontal shaft from the look of it.

Let's go ride up there, there are a few other spots I would like to investigate as well. Have you been to the mine area off of 413 just after the 493 split? Looks to be a few shafts out that way judging by the tailing piles. Good trail over there as well!

I think you are talking about the Iron King mine. There is nothing there anymore. Just a mine dump. The only mines on 413 that are still open are down by Jerome. The Gadsden shaft in particular. I went to that once but I see a Private Property sign at the junction of 413. I must have missed it when I went down there. There are several mines off 493 that are interesting. Would be glad to go with you when the weather is decent. I don't care for riding in mud or snow.

    Hey Prescott Riders.

Need to get out of town ( Pittsburgh Pa USA ) for a while , for about three weeks.

Going to Why/Ajo area to scout around a little.

Throwing the big bike in the truck, is it worth hauling out my smoker?

Are there people and places to ride the two stroker?

Hope i can get together for a ride or two with you guys?
