I have a trip planned from Ontario to meet up with friends in PA and MD mid October. I plan on camping night one at the Leonard Harrison State Park

My question relates to the roads south of the Park.
Garmins mapsource shows dirt roads south of the Canyon

What kind of roads are these? nicely graveled, hardpack dirt, mud?

As well, what will the leaves be like in that area mid October?

    Thanks in Advance:1drink

Leaves should be very close to peak mid-October, maybe just a little past, but still nice!
Can't help you on the roads,,,,

stop at the DCNR headquarters in Wellsboro and get a map of all the roads (dirt)in the area, very helpful. camping on the west rim is at Colton point state park (very primitive no showers, must treat drinking water, very secluded) plus that's the side of the canyon that you acess most of the dirt roads. Leonard Harrison on the east rim has more amenities(showers good water etc. but more crowds. but the whole area is great for riding, can't go wrong either way, you'll love it!

We hold our fall rally down there for the CSBA every year, there are great roads and the people are very motorcycle freindly.

    Paved roads worth checking out

Wycoff Creek Run road off of route 120

Cherry Flats road off of 842

I run the paved roads down there not the dirt ones, it just south of me by a hour or so Next year I will explore some of the back roads

I see what you mean, better roads to the west, better (nicer) camping to the east, roads will win out

So all of the roads on the map below are dirt? Garmins mapsource normaly shows dirt roads as dotted lines

all the roads on the west side of the canyon are dirt. They probably arent show as dirt roads because they are so smooth and maintained , that you can travel on them in any vehicle. A goldwing would have no problems out there.

Witness, ya can camp on the east rim with all the amenities and then ride to the west side. Your only talking maybe a 15 mile ride to get to the west side. If ya ride up to Colton Point get on the west rim road and follow that, it ends at the Pine creek then follow 414 south, it follows the pine creek for about 40-50 miles awesome road and scenery. Have a good ride. BOLTED
