Great to hear that you will resume. I look forward to it.
A lot of your faithful followers would appreciate it! Don't make them change the title of your thread to, "Quit our blog, sold our home, gone riding..."
Gene and Neda, Thank you VERY much for taking the world along with you during your adventure. I have spent nearly 2 months reading report during every free moment *cough* at work *cough*.
You have opened my eyes to so many places and so much and I am very thankful.
I hope your travels continue, and you that you can find the motivation to blog for us dreamers.
This picture reminds me to let you guys know that Neda just got her new bike.
Here's a pic of us with our new rides. More pics to come...
Seems like border closures and lack of "hitting the road" would have been an optimal time to catch up
Was wondering if you could help Neda out. She has been searching for a red BMW Airflow Jacket that looks like her old one:
The current Airflow Jacket for women doesn't come in the red colour, so she has been searching for used or NOS.
BMW has a few generations of this jacket, it doesn't matter which one, just that it is women's only and that it is red and a size 40 Euro. There are a couple on Fleabay that are size 38, but those are too small.
If you can keep your eyes and ears peeled for her and let us know if you find one online, it would be much appreciated!
Here are other versions of the jacket that would be okay as well:
We are dying here! What did she get?!?!? This is the most epic thread ever thanks guys!
immediately found a new one in Belgium... size 38.
A better-looking boyfriend, for starters...
I saw one in the German ebay. Only worn 2x.
Red spray paint....?
Psha, send it back for a color change.
Got Neda 's new PanAm ready to hit the road?.....
It's the end of an era! Neda is selling her well-traveled F650GS. I spent the day shining it up for boudoir shots for the ad:
What is the mileage ?
Wait, all I see is a motorcycle.
Neda calls me on the phone:
"OMG! You know those Lamborghinis that are covered in gold wrap? That's what my bike looks like!", she exclaimed. "It's *SO BLINGY*!!!"
She's at the dealership and she just picked up a 2021 BMW R1250RS and the biggest talking point about her new bike is the colour.
This model comes in three colours for this year, a dark navy blue, black and a special Sport version which comes clad in "Austin Yellow". None of those colours really appealed to Neda, but the Yellow seemed to be the least unappealing.
As soon as we saw the bike in person, we realized the paintwork is actually a matte gold. We've never owned a vehicle with matte paint before and I'm surprised at how much the gold catches the sunlight and highlights the contours of the tank and bodywork.
Nice vertical stainless steel accent along the top of the tank.
The Sport version also comes with a stainless steel engine spoiler just behind the front wheel. The R1250RS has the new "ShiftCam" engine with Variable Valve Timing.
Really nice, bright TFT dash controlled by the "Wonder Wheel" on the left handlebar. It really alleviates a lot of button mashing that you have to do with the conventional D-pads that other motorcycle handlebar controllers have.
Also equipped with all the cool hi-tech packages like Electronic Suspension Adjustment, different riding modes, quick shifter, hill start control, quick shifter, cruise control, blah blah
One feature this bike has that I don't have on my GS is a special "Sport Display Mode" which shows lean angle, traction control intervention, braking power. While it is neat to have that kind of info, I'd always be trying to better my last lean angle... until I inevitably end up achieving 90 degrees of lean...
Cool LED lights!
Also a blast to ride.
This bike is a direct descendent of her old sport-touring bike that she had years ago, a 2005 R1200ST. Since then, BMW has evolved the model line with the R1200RS in 2015 which introduced a water-cooled engine, and now the R1250RS with the ShiftCam technology, offering 36 more horsepower than her original ST.
Truthfully, she never really loved her F650GS, she missed the power of the big boxer twin.
Now, 15 years later and she's back on a Sport-Tourer and loving every minute of it!
Although she was a bit apprehensive about the colour when we ordered the bike (kindly called "mustard yellow" - not so kindly called "snot yellow"), when she saw it in person she was delighted. Pictures don't really show how gold the finish looks and how it picks up the light. It's like a muted version of the shiny gold forks. The other two colours offered - the dark blue and the black - really mask the contours of the bodywork, which is a shame because the new RS has really nice lines.
I joked that this should be her next upgrade:
I love it, and I can't wait to see Neda's new smile
So, the next obvious question is... where will she be riding it? Not up the Sani pass, I guess...
