What aftermarket handlebars are available for the standard GS (’05 – ’07) that anybody knows of? I’d like something that is a bit narrower.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

    Suggestions?

    Cheers!

I switched to some Renthal Fat Bars - KTM bend with a set of advendture workshop 35mm risers. Much more comfortable than the stock bars. I had the bars cut down an inch on each side - could have maybe taken another 1/2 inch of on each side and still retained the hand guards. But would have to measure to be sure.

Protapers will fit with out to much work, You will have to use some type of risers. Do a search here for protaper on this site. I can email you my set up if you like.

Here is some pictures of the Pastnana Protapers with ILIUM works riser on my 07 GSA. The bars on marked on the ends so you know where to cut if you want to shorten them. Both the brake and clutch line and throttle cable fit just like with the stock bars. Kcodegt posted some pictures of his Protapers with the BMW aux Lightswitch. His post is where I got my info to put them on mine. You will need a 12x1.50 mm heilcoil kit for the bar ends, I also drilled and taped mine on the left bar for the heated grip. All fit fine and is a lot better than the stock bars.

I am planning to change as well but don't want to use raisers. How about clearance to the windshield? Would you think the gap would be enough in full lock??

^ it's probably going to be cheaper to return wrong ones and get the right ones...

Having risers machined to fit the 32mm bars is the easy part, though hardly free unless you own the milling machine. Coming up with all new hand controls is going to be the heavy lift.

It will be a great deal easier to simply buy the proper diameter bar.

Either way, post pics once you've completed the upgrade.
