I been trying to find information on how to install an adapter plate or new backend top case mount to fit my old 2009 R1200RT top case to my 1250 GS Adventure. The 1250 GSA mount is totally different to how the old RT top case mounts.

Does anyone here who previously owned a 2009 or previous models of the R1200RT 52 liter top case and now rides either a 1250 GS or GSA able to remount the same top case on your GS or GSA?

thanks in advance for any information.

The pictures in post #16 relate to 49L GS top case that mounts on GS Vario top case mount. And that can't be farther from 52L top case for RT Hexhead that mounts to RT rear rack?!

While I haven't owned Hexhead RT, I did adapt Givi top case mount (not meant for LC GSA) to work with GSA rack - it does require a bit of creativity but it wasn't all that difficult...

In your case, ie. RT top case being meant to go onto RT rear rack, you'll have to fabricate the mount that replicates attachment points from RT rear rack in order to facilitate that - without the pictures it's hard to say how easy or cumbersome that may be to do...

That said, not sure if you looked at Givi top case alternatives as Givi has quite few options that may be better suited and easier to mount onto GSA rear rack. You can sell your RT top case and have new Givi and mounting plate for probably half the money you'll get from selling RT top case... Even more if you can find used top case...

It took a little fabricating but I adapted a 2008 K1200GT rack. Maybe it will give you a couple of ideas.

I think I may go to Home Depot and fabricate the same mounting hardware just like my old ‘09 RT...or find the rear mount on some bmw boneyard

I went to my local dealer to investigate if they had a 49lt on hand.

    They did not.

But they did have an old RT case. The mounts weren’t even close.

Still no luck on finding ANYONE with feedback on the 49lt...

The dealer should be able to order the 49L case for you as well as top case mounting plate (same as for vario top case) - total list price should be around ~$1200 depending on if you want painted or primed one and then paint the top case by yourself... If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it, someone else who sees it may so no harm done...

Considering the price, I'd say that there are better more affordable alternatives but then I'm not target audience for it as I still have my 15 year old Givi top case hand-me-down-from-my-previous-bikes on my GSA doing just fine - ymmv... :deal
