Neither Haynes nor Clymer list the 1250 as having a service manual available? Isn't it the best selling motorcycle on earth? wtf? /endrant Does anyone know a source for a service manual for a 19/20 R1250GS? tia,
I just got a call from MAX BMW (great dealer near me) that my official BMW service manual DVD was in and they're shipping it out. It only recently became available, and I know MAX had to order it from Germany.
If you must have a manual right away, then pony up for the factory DVD noted immediately above. And if a lesser quality substitute will suffice, you could await the aftermarket manuals eventual printing. The latter will almost certainly contain errors, though the former could as well. Until then, you can get buy using the manuals for the last 1200 models. It's not as if the 1250 is an entirely new engine, after all. Also, don't forget our own JVB's materials. As with the paper manuals, his stuff covers major components for the 1250s.
I don't have it yet, should be here in a day or 2. If you want to order a copy now- call MAX BMW in NH, ask for Drew. 603-964-2877. Tell him Peter M sent you. They can ship it.
Thanks Massabusa, my local dealership still says they cant order one, but I emailed Max BMW and ordered it thru them.
+1 on JVB DVD. An absolute must have for the weekend mechanic I emailed Haynes asking if they were going to print a 1250 manual and they replied: “Dear Brian, Thank you for your inquiry. We're sorry, there is neither a Clymer nor Haynes manual for your R1250GS, and there is no projected publishing date in the pipeline at this time. This is because of the extensive time and cost necessary to produce one of our manuals, it is not financially feasible to produce a manual for every model right away; we must base our decision on sales volume and demand. We hope we can publish one for your bike in the future, and we will do so when feasible. That being said, we generally do not recommend our manuals for makes/models/years that are not listed on the cover.” I check their website here and there hoping they do come out with one.
The problem is that Haynes and Climer are seriously risk averse, so they often tell you to take it to the dealer for simple services. Worse, they make a fair number of mistakes. When I came out with the Wethead, Climer ordered two of the videos from me, but they never did make a manual for it. Haynes did, but the photos were very poor quality and a lot of mistakes.
