    Bug,
I just finished this thread and the incredible faceplant tale. Just a couple of things:

Thank you so much for sharing this EPIC story of guts, determination and adventure with us. I honestly hope the Dakar comes back to Africa, where it belongs. You have lived what many only dream, and did it with class -- I hope whatever live brings you, bugwife and the larvae is fulfilling and provided more tales for you to share with us!

Can you say, "Team Bug: Dakar 2011" ? :deal

If it was back in Africa I might consider it on a 450. But I really wanted to get another go this time on a 690. I mean I thought a 525 would be fast. Then I learned I wanted to go really fast.

The Legends deal is looking better all the time.

I sure hope the ASO comes to its senses. I mean really, this is supposed to be a hairy chested muther of a race. They keep watering it down.

Bring back the big beasties and let the chips fall where they may. We know the risks, are willing to accept them and frankly it is one of the great lures of the race.

I am very disappointed today. Was hoping to be back in a year but now????

Now I have to explain this one to sponsors again.

Thiery Sabine is rolling in his grave.

I can't either, but used to be able to. I guess they got taken down for whatever reason.

Looks like his smugmug account is gone. :cry Such a classic report; the text is still there, and that's what makes this report. :nod

    Why are the pics missing?
If account that they are linked to is not active then pics are no longer linked to whereever they originally where. Could have been free or paid account.
Example: I have a free acount on photobucket.com and if I do not go there every other month or so the account dies much like a yahoo free email acount. Then any links to pics I posted are lost.
Its a shame because I remember reading this thread when new and it was good.

If they're lost, then the whole thing would have to be re-downloaded and rebuilt by Bug. Not sure he's around here much these days or if he would be willing to do that. That's a ton of work.

    Outstanding story Bug!

Only found your story having just got back from Africa (not with a bike sadly) and missing most of this years race as it was run. What can I say that has not already been said? I think that it hase all been said already!!!

    :clap:eek1:lol3:huh:cry:eek1:huh:rofl:rofl:clap

I agree with you about Africa and the 450 rule. I can only hope that it returns home running any bike and with you on one of them.

Hope life for the Bug family continues to get better every day, and thank you for the blood, swet and tears that went into your adventure and these reports.

I'm guessing that the book plan never happened. Which is a shame because it would have been a great read!

Fingers crossed that Neduro's 2012 story is less exciting, but that he writes a book anyway. :deal:

I have just read this thread for the first time. Although the pics are gone in some ways it's better - my imagination took up where the pics had been.
    Outstanding piece of writing.
If a Mod was able to link up his posts somehow avoiding many pages of well wishing & encouragemnt it would make it on a par with Metaljockeys threads.

Well worth the time taken to read thankyou 5 years on!
