Me and a buddy stupidly tried to explore a path off the 33 north of Ojai and after a ROCKY ROCKY downhill and several rocky uphills we...

    A. Lost all energy

    B. Got jammed on a path that was NARROW, too narrow to turn around, especially since we barely had enough energy to walk.

Yes, I am a :asshat, but at least I'm an asshat that's alive and not too proud ask for help.

We got to the point of complete exhaustion and dehydration and started to hike out. When we got a tiny sliver of cell phone service we called for help and before we knew it the Ventura County Sheriff's department was picking us up in a Helicopter.

Stupid does not describe how we felt and are feeling. The rescuers actually tried to make us feel better by telling us it happens pretty often. Needless to say they didn't strap the bikes to the copter.

ANYWAY, we need to go back and retrieve our bikes. Does anyone know a service that can help?

They're about 3 miles or so down a single track, so 4 wheelers and jeeps are out of contention.

Ventura county didn't ask for a dime. They even gave us each a bottle of water and a ride to Ojai to meet our buddy who drove up from LA.

Absolutely amazing...and humbling...and we REALLY felt like DOOSHES when we heard the "chop-chop-chop" in the distance and got the cell phone call from the pilot.

Around here unless you are near dead and they can bill your insurance or next of kin for the bird ride you'll end up with nice $3000-$5000 stupid flight! After that 127 hours movie came out last year the local search and rescue was overwhelmed with city folks looking for the slot canyon and remnants of that dudes arm. The hike is often 8-10 hours with equipment and experience, most had neither. Always better to be overprepared than under in those situations. Hopefully you quickly get those bikes out of there!

From what I understand, LA County or Forest Service do the same( charging for rides ). Ventura county rocks.
    Quick cell phone pic enroute.
