Back up two days prior, we met up with Jet Jock Jim in Cambria. He was riding his 1991 R100GS, celebrating its 30th anniversary. This was a different bike than he took down in Mexico last year.
My 50th anniversary V7 Sport was running great. The clutch was still sticking a bit but with some miles each day, it would loosen up. It just added character to the bike, revving it a bit on each shift to makes sure the clutch was disengaged. The front brake was pretty weak. I could pull the lever back to the bars with only marginal braking. I was able to make an adjustment so all 4 shoes were acting on the drum at the same time, which helped a bit. But I still needed to brake in to corners early. But when Rad and Jim were getting frisky, I had a few .....oh shit moments, trying to get the bike slowed down for the endless corners on PCH.
The handling of the bike is amazing. Maybe not KTM390 Duke amazing, but it is such a beautiful experience braking slowly in to a corner, and then rolling on the gas at each apex. The bark of the exhaust is addictive, both on the gas and then the sound of the engine on over-run.
Riding PCH between Cambria and Carmel is still one of my favorite roads in the world. And doing at a pace on these classic bikes makes it ever more enjoyable. On a modern sport bike, I need to hit triple digit speeds to get the same enjoyment. So this Moto Guzzi is a great balance for me, even though I feel it is more dangerous , even at a slower speed. The bikes are needing little more maintenance than just putting some air in the tires. 20210921_090035.jpg
    Absolutely beautiful day on PCH.
It seems more likely than not, there is sense fog......but not on this Tuesday morning.

The moto guzzi 4ls front brake is indeed not the best. According the guy from Vintage Brakes in Sonoma the backing plate flexes too much.
I redid mine once, new brake shoes, arced on a lathe, drums turned, etc.. The result was only marginally better.

I did that ride from San Francisco up into Oregon and back about 5 years ago. What a wonderful ride. Wish I was there with you all.

So you all weren't held back by a lot of RV's and SUV's? Nacimiento - Fergusson road is fun if you've got the time on the way back

As the saying goes, “Better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow”. Not that any of those are “slow” bikes, but they would be a hoot on the PCH. Makes me wish I still had my ‘69 Bonnie.

Late September-early October are the best months for fog free Pacific coast rides. The valleys inland are cooling off so the maritime layer remains off shore instead of being pulled in each day. Enjoy your ride!

Before I bought the Moto Guzzi, I wanted one of these. A 1972 to 1974 Ducati 750 Sport. They were about $10,000 about the time but before i could actually buy one, the prices shot up and they are worth about $50,000 now. I still lost for one but not at that price.

    Great pics, awesome ride Lalo!

Not to nitpick, but I believe you were actually at Lands End park/Fort Point in those shots there, not Golden Gate park.:D

900 miles on a 50 year Moto Guzzi
Rad on his 40 year old Honda Turbo
Jim on his 45 year old BMW
And Kate on her newer Triumph with VERY limited riding experience
I had 2 magazines that wanted to do an article on this ride for Moto Guzzis 100th anniversary but I think they pulled the plug because they thought we wouldn't make it.
Well, I bet they are sorry now.

Well done, and it looked like prefect timing for a trip like this. The mansion had to be a bit of a budget bender, but what a view!

    Yep
    Not a rental for sure.
    It is the billionaire's house.
FYI, since I've gotten back from Alaska, I have been living in my storage facility, sleeping in my car (including my former yellow car) and in a tent in Newport Beach.
In other words, just buying time and saving money before I can head back to Thailand.
