    Nice cool morning
Left TN, into MO, detoured through AR, landed in KS with threats of rain and wind.
Discretion being the better part of valor (not a fan of trying to recreate Dorthy's flight), I opted to book a room for the night.

Lower Kansas is quite beautiful, rolling hills, cattle ranches.

Oklahoma 11 is a miserable road, flat & straight with the only redeeming place being the salt marsh, very pretty. The dead turtles that failed at crossing the road sucked,(the people who either, do not care, notice, or deliberately hit them suck worse).

For those that ride the V-Strom

Landed at a hotel in New Mexico, due to, what I call diaper rash. Sitting/riding is painful. I "assume" it is caused by me sitting for so long with sweaty shorts/undies. Currently doing my best to keep things dry and slathering my ass with Zink Oxide (Desitin). Stupid lack of the 7 "P's" and research.

    385 Miles
Launched early to enjoy the cool morning
Let Garmin do it's thing and was routed up I25 to Walsenburg Colorado, 160 to Alamusa (fun mountain roads)285 to Antonito, 17 into New Mexico, 64 to Navajo Dam Campground

Landed at Navajo Dam SP Campground, nice place had a spot close to the restrooms & showers
Had a small, but strong, squall come through with strong winds and short amount of rain, as I was setting up the tent. Got it nailed down the remembered that I had not closed my boxes or luggage bags fully. Spread everything on the picnic table and surrounding trees and had everything dry in about 20 min.
Butt "seems" to be better, still painful.

Started cool enough, then turned to a blast furnace. Made numerous stops (in addition to gas up) to refill the water bag.

Skirted Lake Powel into Utah and landed at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Got settled in and went out to find food and discovered there was a wide area power outage (found food about 20 miles away)
Power came on around 8-9 (ish), no internet.

I see you are headed for the NW corner of Washington you should ride Hwy 20 when you start your journey east. It's a great ride and since your in the area you might wanna look into it. Have a great trip.

Met the Volunteer Coordinator who had me booked at one of the cat facilities for the morning. After lunch. I was taken on a tour of the entire complex, absolutely amazing.

This day was draining. Having watched Best Friends go from a TV show about Dogtown to the nationwide force, building on a foundation of compassion and inclusion to help both pets and people.

On the road at 0630 and routed through the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Then into Arizona and into Nevada.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    PICS of Sand dunes

Nevada..... What hell hath I wandered into??? Oklahoma is Nevada's bitch for straight monotony and heat (106 degrees)

Strangely there was a lot of really nice geology, plant life, and wild life (rabbits, hawks, free range cattle) that kept my attention and out of the scrub brush on the sides of the road.
Tested the depth of my gas tank (Specs state 5 gallon). Realized that I might be in trouble when the closest station was outside of my stated range. Dropped speed down to 5 below posted, and coasted down several hills. arrived at a station just outside of Fallon with my gauge showing 3 miles left. Tank took a full 5 gallons, probably could have squeezed another 1/2 gallon in.
Landed in Fallon NV, grabbed dinner, then re-hydrated and settled in for the night.

**** I bitch about the monotony, and desolate landscape that I have gone though, in truth, I find a lot of it fascinating (my schooling included a lot of the earth sciences, and my having hiked the Olympic and Cascade Mountains in my youth).

Another early morning (waking up before the alarm is becoming normal, might be the fact that I am sleeping restlessly)

Routed just north of Reno and caught some of the morning rush (GRRRRRRR).
Up into California on 395 to 139 and through the Modoc National Forest. I was able to smell the ponderosa pines (love that smell) before having everything covered with smoke from the various "wild" fires in & around California.

Landed in the Klamath Falls KOA, got set up and left to get dinner. Came back and I have a neighbor (I SUCK WITH NAMES!) who is riding a R1200 RS, traveling from Sacramento to a BMW rally somewhere north of here.
**ETA** Charlie is going to THIS RALLY

Had a great time chatting about riding (duh) and other stuff.
Tomorrow should be exciting, I am reconnecting with a Buddy that I served with and last saw in 1995.

    Day 10
    Short ride today, 185 miles

    Started at 0630 ~60°
The further north I got the colder it got.
Down to 43, after all of the desert riding, I was shivering, buttoned up all air vents and turned on the heated grips.
Uneventful other than the three deer that decided to cross the highway in front of me.

Landed at my buddies house late morning and got acquainted with his 4 dogs..
Caught up on our respective lives, and commiserated about others we served with.

Slept the best I had since starting this trek.

Jumped in his truck and took a 4-5 hour tour of the Ochoco National Forest where my buddy grew up hunting, fishing, and camping.
Got fairly close to this guy:

Landed at Moms House in time for lunch.
She had a bunch of stuff that needed to be installed / repaired.

Stripped the bike of all luggage to prep it for a small service / mechanical once over, then got caught up on all of the family gossip.

    Day 13
Went to breakfast at Moms favorite diner.
Got the bike to the shop, then off to find some 1" elastic and plastic "D" rings to repair my sheepskin seat pad.

Bike is done, pick it up, off to find a replacement CamelBak bladder (old one from the Army started to leak a few days ago.

Got back to Moms only to hop in the MGB and go to a local pop-up food truck / swap meet to pick up some lunch tamales & empenadas, YUMMM.

After lunch, removed and replaced 1 storm door (another tomorrow).
