The other one is Jean Gabin. I guess the mural is a reminiscence of the French movie "Un singe en hiver" ("A Monkey in Winter"), based on the same-titled novel by Antoine Blondin, and filmed on location in Normandy in winter 1962. Great movie, by the way!

Interesting this as I've always wanted to go to Portugal (where my parents have lived for about 15 years) following the west coast.
I might do that one day.

hey john, you and i had rode together so many times since 2007. i always value your company and great service in helping me lift my bike for over 3 dozen times...:D

i'm pretty sure you have the resources to make a trip like this happen. next time we get together, let's plan something for next year.

thanks hans.....now i remember seeing Jean Gabin in some of his films. another one that i like is alain delon....damn, we're old...:lol3

ard, the coastal ride is epic. maybe we were lucky that we saw very little traffic. not too many tourists will take the small roads since it will be a waste of their time if they have limited vacation days. besides, many of those small roads are suitable for motos.

thanks to frank for taking the lead, finding the nicer roads while i just enjoy the ride.

My wife and I got to visit Normandy on an anniversary of D Day in 2007 with friends who then lived in France. Like you, it rained and yet was very moving.
We were all surprised by the local people who upon discovering we were American, thanked us for saving family and friends from that time. We met a lot of people who dressed up as reenactors and had period restorations of jeeps and such.

Yep, it's a very moving part of your RR. The sacrifice that took place is unimaginable. I feel as years go past, future generation do not take heed and are doomed to repeat. but will there be enough strong freedom fighted next time around ?

i'm a history buff and D Day is one won't be forgotten, just like Waterloo, Gettysburg, Iwo Jima, and many more.

we still have to get to Cherbourg to meet johann who invited us to stay at his place. he has unbelievable story. came to los angeles for a wedding and then got the crazy idea of travelling to south america. found a bike in bakersfield, took the bus, bought the bike and rode it to los angeles and all the way to panama. what's amazing is he doesn't know how to ride a motorcycle. he's a lawyer by profession but that doesn't count. when we got to his house, he just came from his moto riding school...damn, that's good to hear. phew!

immediately, johann took us to his favorite local restaurant but first we took my laundry at his mom's apartment..haha

i recall seeing Johan and Frank in Normlas Ride Report when they ship their bike from Panama to Columbia.

We, French people, may not like very much your current president but we are very thankful of our American friends (and British, Canadians, and all allied forces) who helped liberate our country from nazi occupation.
D-Day veterans in Normandy are treated as the heroes that they are.
France is the oldest ally of USA : our 2 peoples are friends.

dan...i can't wait anymore to win the lottery. LOL

next year, if my employer let me take 40 continuous days of vacation, i will stay. right now, i enjoy 20 days plus 10 day of holidays.

hope with that much days, i will be able to complete the european tour. don't have to see all town or cities.

i had the pleasure of meeting your friends and neighbor last year, great time and dinner. don't think, i can make it this time.

i work for a french company (parent company is total) for over 12 years now, hence that's why i get 20 days of vacation time.

i love france, the history, food and people, and the land is very fertile, same as the neighboring countries and farming is everywhere.

as far as the current president, the people elected him since they want a drastic changed. the country was getting led by liberal people and seems unstoppable. i am hoping our next leader will be in the middle.

always appreciated to hear the gratitude of the french people to the allied countries. the liberation of europe, completely changed the way the western world live and progress.
