we can't ask for a better weather. bought WP ski gloves and never used them. tons of motos on the mountain passes and restaurants, 99.5% are big bikes.

haven't seen a backpacker for the last 60 days. hundreds of cyclists and thousands of day hikers.

Canazei, Pordoi Joch, oh man! that brings up memories of glorious ski days back in the 1980's!
Btw, the Alto Adige is Süd Tirol, the autonomous German speaking region of Italy. There is a joke that the secret capital is Munich.
Don't forget to try Apfelstrudel, they make the best in Südtirol!

thanks Bill. it takes years of practice and patience but mainly luck. i shoot 5 and get 1 good one...:lol2

we saw a lot of ski resorts and just like you....skiing was one of my favorite sports. i noticed that too, German is spoken here. we met many riders and many of the bikes have German plates.

thanks and I will try the Apfelstrudel. i have only 2 days left here in town and be able to find it.

i gave up a bigger dream and settle for this one. easier since it's more realistic.

    thanks Colby.

made it to the hotel before 4 pm and we ate Ian's pasta masterpiece...actually very good (we also ate it the night before). really glad we have a home base to return to. we were tired of eating restaurant food and getting my cc swiped contact-less so many times. i don't think we spent, including benzene for ms.merkel, more than 20 euros a day.

i have been using my CC and it's getting bruised (figure of speech which makes no sense) each time even if it's contactless....swiping is old tech and my mind too.

i think the german riders were a little bit jealous of the small size of you california plate.
Because of the large size of the german license plate we used to call them baking pan.
although i heard they have become smaller...

Joel, all these pics from the alps are so awesome I almost have nothing stupid to say. The closest thing I’ve ever ridden to any of that was highway 82 into Aspen from the East which I was barely able to ride because I couldn’t keep my eyes on the road, and that was just landscape, none of that cool alpine architecture. Where you are, I would have to stay and ride everything at least twice, once for the scenery and once for the ride. I’m so pucking jealous of you.

the locals love their departed dear ones and continue to do so. the small plots are well maintained and by offering candles. great tradition and very admirable.

shhhh just keep it to ourselves....:lol3

haha...plus they never saw a single-cylinder bike or heard of the G650X Country...:rofl

one rider made a comment saying it's a single. i replied it's a product of Italian and Austrian parents with a German name. even in the states, this bike model is very scarce.

for sure, there are plenty of castles around the alps. there's a nice website for the ones in the Trento region:

    https://www.trentino.com/it/cultura-e-territorio/castelli/

a few weeks ago as i finished my 10 day tour in the Alps, we stayed at the Castle Pergine. it has a nice restaurant on site and has been a hotel for 100 years and is one of the few castles in the region that has rooms to let.

if you get back towards Trento, it's a neat place to stay: https://www.castelpergine.it/it/castello/

riding the mountain passes and twisty roads is a lot of fun and give me a rush, great to move the body in every turn but that becomes tiring.
Ian and i agreed that at 12:30 pm, wherever we are, we will turn around and head back to the hotel. yes, it was a good and safe idea that we limit our rides to approx 6 hours and less than 200 km each day.

    healthy dinner waiting for us
