Awsome pics of Venice (and everything else). Thanks for sharing.
Too bad you had to ride past the Festa dei Canederli. Canederli are a type of dumpling that is a typical Tyrol/Alpine dish. Many times a meal will be "tre canederli" with one spinach, one cheese and one speck...very filling and also sometimes served in a broth.
Nice job on the Venice trip, it's perfect time of year (weather wise) to visit Venice.
You and I are on opposite ends of Italy. We are down in Sicily right now.
Great report as always.
I hear you about the Montana unit. I find it excels at off road and dual sport. After that the Montana sucks big time on road biased trips. The EU etc. are better routed by Nuvi style units. Which is why on these trips here the BMW NAV units work well especially since I have the big GS here.
On my Mexico trips I actually bring along both units. That works best for me there.
Only a little further south of you are the Ducati and Moto Guzzi museums. Worth checking out.
Ducati museum: https://www.ducati.com/ww/en/borgo-panigale-experience?tab=Visit
Don't miss an evening at the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna.
The Moto Guzzi museum is located in Mandello del Lario, about 280 kms west by northwest of Venice:
Joel, should you go there on your way back north, I would recommend this albergo & ristorante in Mandello: https://www.mammaciccia.it/en
Great accommodation, superb food!
i am NOW in Pula Croatia for the next 2 or 3 nights, then ride along the coast all the way down to Albania.
there's a section of the city with all the designer brands to shop for clothes. Gucci today, Dior tomorrow...haha
i would hate to have luggages in Venice. there were hundreds of tourists maybe in the thousands pulling their luggage while sightseeing or heading down to their next destination, and the hard part is walking up the dozen bridges, lots of them have steps only.
the city is sinking as we speak, and will still be there next year. you should be ok as long no one talks about global warming.
read here on the forum that some advriders hate Venice. i don't know what' wrong with them...cheap [email protected]#d$
there so much history, culture and art put in that city. they all whine about the $$$.
next time. i would be back next year. we barely rode the mountain passes, think we did 14 and there are much more.
i rained Sunday afternoon in Venice but by then my legs are gone and all i wanted is get on the boat and bus so i could go back to the hotel. yesterday no raid and much better sightseening. i explored the other side of Venice, the working-class district.
nice pics Dan. glad to see you're rolling again...good job!
i've been to the MG museums and that was worth visiting, plus Lake Como was an added bonus.
@NSFW - designer clothes two sizes too small, that was a problem. Funny thing was my luggage arrived one hour before we were due to leave Venice. Just in time to change into clean gear!
I really enjoyed Venice but not sure I would bother going back. Definitely pleased we made the effort though before it sinks.
2021.09.27 Venice Walking Tour continuation.....
once a very elegant passageway
wait a minute........
corner street light
almost up to the bedroom floor
me too, i drank from the drinking fountain (it's everywhere) and also took home a full bottle
more than a trifecta...4 bridges in one pic
at about 2 pm, it started raining, and glad i was prepared. brought my rain jacket and i'm already heading back to the bus/tram station. everyone was looking for cover and there were not a lot of places to take shelter. the boats were all full and people have to wait longer than usual.
the touristy spots are awesome, just have to deal with the crowd and not worry much about spending our hard-earned $, this is not the time to be cheap. Venice needs tourist money to stay afloat so that others will have the opportunity to enjoy the city.
i still have a full day to explore, this time i want to see the other side of the city.
Like you said, Venice isn’t cheap. These girls are hanging out because they noticed a bulge in your pants. They thought it was your wallet.
Lots more really great pictures Joel. Glad you got there while it’s still above water.
i see a discount for me to get inside the Ducati Museum. most likely i will spend the remaining days while my visa allows here in the Western BALKANS...stretch my $ too.
i think 2 full days is plenty enough and after everything starts looking the same. if i have a date, then that will be on a different schedule...will include a gondola and taxi rides....picture me and my date
hahaha...don't make the mistake it's not manicotti, but cannoli i stashed for later.
Enjoy, the Croatian coastline and islands are great. :)
I’m picturing it now.
Is that an adjustable wrench in your pocket or are you just pleased to see us....
Context is important. What's not usually shown are the extreme low tide photos.
December in Venice is usually the time of "acqua alta" (high water) and the MOSE system of temporary dams somewhat mitigates the high tide flooding typical in December.
Great stuff. So much history. Thanks for the pics/commentary!
only you will know.....what was i thinking
or the 2nd will be the ground floor.......
2021.09.27 Venice, the other side
staying elsewhere has big advantages. less $ and the convenience of having buses right at the entrance to the city
this is where you buy souvenirs for your co-workers
the boats and church are basics
in spite of the old age and lack of restoration....it is elegant
everything needed has to be boated-in
unwanted stuff is boated-out
could be the first female gondolier
no problemo para el chaparito
bricks are tough and looks nice
blame it on covid
final word........never leave home without one
2021.09.28 Venice - Pula
northwest of Venice is a swampland
for a while i tagged along with this rider from Spain
i bypassed Trieste by taking the high road
Google led me here 1-lane road to reach Slovenia
no doubt, Google is right
this is the easiest border crossing so far
it didn't take long to get across Slovenia and now i'm inside Croatia
the fun begins
another castle on top of the hill
i tried to ride up as closed as possible
i was hungry and don't want to walk in my gear....best i can do
several miles later
supersized double cheeseburger
across the street is a castle
Pula here i am
Please hit an island or two in Croatia, Joel. There are so many with good ferry connections.
i left Pula at 9:30 am and it was very windy. the moment i reached the coastal road, it was blowing hard and i can't keep a straight line and going into the turns was scary. at 2 pm found a place in Senj and called it a day. the apartment is on top of a cliff, the damn wind is worse and howling loud....enough adventure for me today.
that would be fun!
how did Croatia have so many islands? i read 1k and 50 are inhabited. Greece has over 6k islands.
