Not enough water to cover them up?
2021.09.29 Pula Walking Tour
ms. merkel gets a 2-day off since i will be taking the bus. my accommodation has a white door.
it's only a 10-minute ride to the old town. glad i still have Kunas to use on the bus. thanks to Ian for giving me his HRK currency, and i needed more. FYI our dollars and euros are not accepted in Croatia so i have to exchange $100.
the Roman gate to the city
i remember reading his work from our Literature class
back again to the war memorial
what are those hanging below the windows? kind of oversized planters....
the Roman Forum
glad to see even though only one survived
old town square
the stones were from Roman times and got polished from being walk on
it is showing the correct time
i was curious to see the smokestack
another Roman ruin and i was told, there are more under the existing buildings
look what i found! it is the only remaining Roman amphitheater to have four side towers entirely preserved. It was constructed between 27 BC and AD 68, and is among the world's six largest surviving Roman arenas. The arena is also the country's best-preserved ancient monument.
11 kunas got me in
but the best one is.............the victory pose (less sword and shield)
there's a gear rental shop inside but i'm too cheap. just picture this with me instead. pretty sure Biggie can do photoshop...
underneath are tunnels and chambers
gladiators like to drink a lot
grab the railing when it rains
another good traditional meal........Istrian Pasta
nothing exciting after lunch so i took the bus back to my accommodation, turned the tv on, and watch documentaries and news....in Croatian...
then studied the map and planned my stops along the coastline...
If I start PhotoShopping, it may cost you a lot more than 11 Kunas to get me to remove some of the results you weren’t anticipating.
That amphitheater is awesome.
I notice the girls are usually posing for you.
Even if they don’t know it!
2021.09.30 Pula to Senj
the original route is from Pula to Zadar which is about 6 hours. it was windy when i left this morning at 9 am and just got worse on the coastline heading south. it was so bad that i can't keep a straight line. the corners are crazier, felt like the tires were sliding sideways and even worse when i'm at a stop. this reminded me riding Mojave on a very windy day. at 2 pm finally decided to stay in Senj and continue the ride tomorrow.
finally i saw the coast
i was a celebrity once more after these riders saw my license plate, and asked a few questions.....
down to sea level
i was standing a few meters from the 45th parallel
i filled up and decided to stay in town
more cannons will attract hordes of tourists
the accommodation is on a hilltop with a good view of the city and the sea...also the wind was howling louder
it is advertised as 200 m from the beach....that is if i jump off the edge
i didn't get the full view since i booked a room at a discount....
just terrific, i love your RR!
great work, Joel!
shedding tears won't matter...
agree...and the coliseum is the city's main tourist attraction

my camera has a special feature...a wandering lens
2021.10.01 Senj to Trogir
i had a rough time sleeping due to the strong gust of wind pounding on the window and the trees outside. this went on all night till noon of the following day. there are a lot of tent campers on the shoreline and i'm pretty sure they had worse.
the route was partially coastal and nice while the inland roads were quiet and straight
having to face the sun doesn't make good pics
some of the many islands
there are as much motos as cars on the road
once behind a caravan it's tough to pass legally...no diff being on the Pacific Coast Highway
before Zadar, there was a big bicycle race and the roads were closed temporarily. i made use of the time by having a traditional Croatian food at a roadside restaurant. always have Kunas since many places on the countryside don't take credit cards or euros.
pig neck and rice, including sparkling water for about 12 dollars
having moto gear and to walk, i just rode around the city wall
Sibernik and St. Michael Fortress on the hill
borrowed from the web
accessible through a residential street and i hiked up the stairs to get close enough
i have to turn around and go back to the bike since i left the key, phone and GPS on the bar (typical of me)
already i can see my accommodation ................
i am very satisfied with my Lumix for being able to deliver good quality pics....my only regret is waiting too long to make the purchase. all my pics are not post-processed.
2021.10.02 Trogir Surrounding - i wanted to get to Ciovo Island, just west of Trogir
tourists lining up to get aboard
along the way, view of the fortress from the island
it's either a 1 or 2 lane road to get to the end of the island
crystal clear bluish water
i can't help it, really enjoying it when people ask me where i came from after they saw my license plate.
there's a crack in that wall
the island is connected to the mainland by bridges, this is one of the 2 and being repaired
the other bridge
riding back to the mainland
then to the old city
motos able to get this far with a special permit....
no need to pay to get out...
tour of the inner walls next.........
Trogir walking tour...
17th-century city gate
ferry ride is free
for sale? i will take the dinghy....
the city center
random pics of narrow alleys
she asked me to see her picture...
i climbed up to the wall above the gate and noticed this........
did someone mess up? can't make up what the letterings are? whoever did it, he/she/they should be hanged upside down...
“she asked me to see her picture”
as she should of a handsome fellow. If only some others knew!
So Joel, aren't you getting just a bit tired of all the bucolic scenery, the ancient ruins, the amazing food and longing for the smoke-filled skies and traffic clogged roads of home?
I hope your new camera, which takes excellent pictures, has a silent mode, otherwise the shutter sound may be followed by a slapping sound.
I hope you didn't miss this huge statue near Primošten. You can ride up there and have a cup of coffee or a drink and enjoy the view.
send $ so i can stay longer....
always something new every day.
too late, heading south. if i knew last week, i would. looks like a beautiful place.
Joel, maybe get a strap for your camera and try out this look. You might get away with more.
it's only about 20 miles from Trogir to Split by public bus. ditch the moto gear for shorts and tee since there will be a lot of walking.
at one time, it was a majestic city
the main gate to the walled city of Split
outside is this tall monument
typical narrow alley
entrance to Diocletian's Palace
i'll let you figure this one out
stay tune and don't touch the remote........
2021.10.03 Split continuation....
for the fans of GoT
