the plan is to stay 2 nights in Postojna so we can visit the Predjama Castle and Postojna Cave. camping is no longer an option since the weather is now cold and we want to stay within walking distance from the cave.

good bye Ljubjana and happy i don't have to remember the correct spelling after this post...:lol2

we found ourselves on this dirt road
    [IMG]

an older lady came out of her yard and was curious who we are and where are we going. Ian and she were talking and inscribing routes on the dirt. she gave us the shortest direction and exact distance to get to Predjama. also, she assured us the dirt road is good.

the nice lady even offered to take our pic. and to our surprise, without asking her, she did a shot from the ground. seems she knows photography

the apartment in Postojna was just another 10 km away and we made it there on time to check in. anyone coming to visit the castle should buy the packaged tickets with the cave tour and save yourself 4 euros. that we didn't know.

very amazing and it's alive. the stalagmites and stalactites are still growing; there's also a blind salamander living inside.

the cave is about 20 km long and we only saw 25%. the rest are closed due to seasonal closure and under-construction.

Did someone translate the "fortune" for you? It says "You can express yourself very well: in words, in actions, in feelings." Based on what I've seen of your RRs, it's right on the money. :beer

thanks for the translation and kind comment.

prior to going to Slovenia, many people advised me to visit your country cuz it's beautiful. no doubt and also the riding is fantastic. lots of natural landscape and calm atmosphere. Ian and i are happy we took our time at a leisurely pace travelling in Slovenia. the people we met are friendly and helpful.

heavy thunderstorms and rain for 3 days were in the forecast before we left Postjana. we don't want to get caught while we're up in the mountains heading up to our apartment in Dolomiti so we decided to wait out the storm here at Manzano in a 200+ year old villa that was turned into an agriturismo hotel.

btw, last night was a classic Hollywood scene. around midnight, the rain fell very hard and was followed by non-stop and loud thunder. this went on for almost an hour while we were in our brass antique beds surrounded by thick concrete rock walls with old glass windows, while the floor squeaks whenever we move around. our room was pitch black and the only light we get was from the continuous lightning. it felt like we were trapped inside a haunted house and part of an old horror movie....no kidding.

I call ‘il fallo’ on Cornelius Vanderbilt II. This is the summer house he built in Newport RI in the 1890s. Notice any similarities?

hello larry. thanks for the comment.

now that you're a Guzzi fan, a trip to Italy, specifically Mandello should be on your next travel.

i remember seeing several mansions in Newport R.I. with huge gates and European-styled home castles. it was told the rich American tycoons back then went to Italy and brought back craftsmen and builders including Italian construction materials.

btw, our hotel is 300 years old not 200 and the whole village is owned by the people who are living in that villa.

    :yikes

no need to knock, we left the door unlocked or open all the time since the lockset gets jammed and needs to be jiggled to get it unlocked.

hehe, glad this didn't happen in RO or it will be vladdy in my dream. i must have seen all the Dracula movies. we need a new version and i am a draculaholic.

malloy....traveling is no fun if not shared....need pictures or it didn't happen....in my case it will be forgotten.
