Really enjoying the pictures! Don’t know where your headed, but my wife and I really enjoyed Pompeii.
If you like WWII history, the Abbey at Monte Casino is very interesting. The allied cemetery will surely choke you up, if you read the tombstones. (person l messages from the soldiers families.) Also the beaches of Anzio and Salerno.

I saw a movie about Monte Casino in Polish while I was in Prague; so I made sure to stop there on the way to Naples. Went to Pompeii but it was a Sunday and got overwhelmed by traffic and lots of detours. Ended up going to the Amalfi Coast.

    2019.10.03 Rome to Naples

before leaving Rome, i preordered a few maintenance parts (front brake pads, oil filter, copper washers, etc.) i thought it will be a quick will-call and pay. took about an hour to find my parts. then, cashier's computer crashed! anyway, happy to get the parts.

my Garmin Montana took me to a narrow and quiet road; it felt like i was going the wrong direction
    [IMG]

then to a fun twisty road

soon Naples will be on my sight
    [IMG]

once i made it to the city, it was madness. the drivers are far worse than those in Rome, and the streets are narrow and crowded with vehicles and pedestrians. found my stay up on a hill overlooking the city, parked Ms. Merkel in a secured spot and i went to bed.

    2019.10.04 Napoli Walking Tour

do i want to ride? no because it was raining; found a plausible excuse....:D
    [IMG]

by the time i got out of the metro station, the rain was gone

no one seems to be interested looking at this one; i guess once you have seen Rome, the rest are not as impressive

I’ve been hearing so much about bike theft in Europe, are you calling places to stay ahead of time to see if they have gated parking for the bike?

Airbnb is sketchy. The stays claim “parking on premises” which could also mean paid or street parking. Usually I will email the host and verify if it’s a secured parking, 4 said yes but only 2 has a locked gate.

However there are many who are honest, and it seems they own the property and has a family.

2019.10.06 Naples - Pizza and Bike Service

today, it was raining hard. i'm suppose to ride towards Sicily but didn't think it was safe since it will take 2 days of riding in the rain. my recommended skip the riding and take the ferry from Naples to Palermo (Sicily). it will save me at least 2 days and overnight stays.

a better alternative, my host Ciro and i took Ms. Merkel to a scooter shop for an oil change. we left Ms. Merkel there and to return at 3 pm.

we returned to the apartment and had pizza...the real pizza margharita

Amalfi is a beautiful place and the riding should be great but all i experienced was traffic. there were hundreds of bike and they had fun by riding the opposited lane. though i lane split in CA, can't do it here in Italy.

That old British car should be an AC Aceca Bristol Coupe, a truly rare sighting! AFAIK just 169 were built in the late 50s. The later Cobra was quite known better...
