That Shinko 546 front looks a lot like a Michelin AC-10 that lasted me about 400 miles on my DR650. Hope the rubber is tougher.

Believe it or not, I was actually able to stretch it out somewhere between 120-130 per tank! I did carry some extra with me in the more remote areas through Utah, but never did have to use it. You should have seen the looks i got at the motel when i empties my “approved container” in to the tank. :lol3

Honestly, with that being my first real long distance trip, I didn’t mind stopping for a minute to get off that often lol. Biggest mileage I did in a day on that trip was just around 650 miles I believe. But I actually spent about 7 or 8 days getting out there. Took me just under 2-1/2 to get to New Mexico via I-40, after that, it was all backroads and spent a few days in Cali with friends riding the canyons of Cali. :D That was a lot on a thunder chicken, but that bike did surprisingly well. It’s crossed this country about 5 or 6 times between me and a couple of Aussie buddies.

The Shinko has a taller, more durable knob than that AC-10. I tried the front and rear AC-10 and was not happy with value or performance.

I’ve not used the 546 rear but when this Dunlop MX33 wears out, it’s next on the list.

Yikes! I am surprised that the “approved container” didn’t melt.

Not eating the lizard/skank at the firepit was a good decision. Caleb says he still can taste that nasty thing.

Well, come 'on then :) Probably want to wait for it to warm up a bit. The watering hole on 80 is a little chilly these days.

The Taos Plateau is a fantastic place to ride! Took the 1190ADV-R out for two weeks in 2015, crossed into Colorado from the plateau after crossing the Rio Grande at the Arroyo Hondo. That really was a great trip...

Thanks for all the thoughts about tires. I decided to give the Golden Tyre

    GoldenTyre GT333 IntermediateTerrain Tire

    And for the front

    GoldenTyre GT216AA Enduro Tire 90/90x21

If they don’t preform well it’s all yalls fault for not insisting I purchase some other tire

Planning to ride forest roads near Brevard tomorrow just to get used to the bike

Yes WR sold, husky seems to have good low end grunt for the short test ride we'll see how it does when I get it into the woods.

Hey guys. I am a fresh transplant from Florida now living in Johnson City area. Looking for adventure riding or dual sport riding in the area.

Weather seems to be breaking and I am ready to ride. Have a 1200 GS in the DR 650 ready to go.

    Anyone in JC area???

Any Charlotte area riders around here?? Just picked up this 2005 Suzuki V-Strom 650 that I'm gonna ride to Canada this summer. It's been to 49 of 50 states already!

^ I picked up a Wee Strom from Fellow Inmate Numa in 2017. Doesn't get the miles my other bikes do, but it's fun exploring anyway. Are you looking for street riding or off road riding?

Both! I've only ever ridden on the street (previous bikes were an FZ6, FZ1, FZ8) but I would love to get some light off-road riding started.
