Pisgah FS roads are a little harder than Maxpatch but not too much. Way easier than Hurricane Creek.
Wilson Creek area has major washouts.
Thanks for posting this. Was thinking of heading out there on Saturday. My wife and son are out of town and was planning a dawn to dusk... (we've got a bunch of critters so an overnight is out of the question). It's a toss up between there and Nantahala.
They got over 10 inches of rain in Boone and surrounding areas
I hope you ended up coming out here (Wilson). Took the Jeep through there today to see how bad it was, at least on Edgemont and Roseboro roads I didn’t see anything I wouldn’t have done on the 990R or 1190R. Biggest thing is watch out for roads that are a lot narrower than they used to be as the sides of a few hills have washed away...
I didn't.... Hmm, maybe tomorrow. I went out to Whittier dropped south, meandered around then cut east through pisgah and home. Great riding, saw practically nobody. Only took 2 pics.
I'd have to look at the map to remember what road this was, but it took me to fs 70. Cowee mountains.
South of Whittier... you were probably on Conleys Creek Rd.
Yep! Nailed it. I had a couple of those today.
Fueling up in Marion.... Let's see what the day brings!
Any chance you can do some recon on S. Toe River Rd??? It's been closed for some time now.
As of 2 weeks ago it was still closed. I may return home that direction and will check.
I'm almost home, stopping for some eats. What a perfect day. I came south on nc80 to check...the gates still closed for s. toe.
So rode the first section and part of the second of the MABDR on Saturday. Definitely had a blast trying to follow Sidewinder and my buddy John as usual
I have a couple of other buddies planning to do the entire route by Wednesday. Had a blast riding and hanging out Saturday night. We raided the summer solstice in Blacksburg and probably ruined that place for a while lol. Anyway, good times, definitely looking forward to getting back out there and at least finishing up section 1 & 2 one day. I have a feeling I may be down for the whole thing when time allows. Here’s a few pics I got along the way.
That is not my ugly mug thank God!
See, I’m smart enough to cover mine up
No one would dirty dance with me
And poor Blacksburg... talk about a motley crew
Good times were had, let’s do it again!
Love it! @CheapB I'm itching to do the MABD. If I can get out of a tentative trip this early fall, I think I'm going to try and do it then. Looks like you guys had a ball!
A few from today. The Linville area is a little spot of heaven. Every turn I made, there was more beauty to be seen. The next time I can put a few days together and camp, I'll definitely be returning. I was kind of racing the clock today so didn't stop too much. I definitely saw alot of evidence of high waters. I was a little bummed that my family was out of town for Father's day, but the weather, scenery, roads, friendly people I met ensured it was one for the books. Such a beautiful day.... Tear in your eye kinda beautiful day.
.... A few random shots.
Where did you ride at? I thought I knew Linville well but I don't have a clue where you took the pic's?
I'll take a shot... 1st pic looks like Old Johns River Rd, 2nd is definitely off of Edgemont, 3rd could be Edgemont or Anthony's Creek and 4th??? Craig Creek Rd?
Nice job! 3rd was Anthony's creek, 4th was near the junction of fs 2076 and fs 472...s. toe river rd, before the gate...... Very cool old spooky stone structure.
Hahaaa I need to look more while riding! I went up Anthony creek this past weekend but I turned to go up to blowing Rock. I can be at S toe river Rd in about 15 minutes. I thought that was the structure but I knew the gate was shut? Forgot that was before the gate..
I urge you all to email the forest service and ask when S toe river Rd, Neil's creek and stoney fork will be reopened. I've sent numerous emails and they haven't answered me yet.. I'd love to have a petition and send it to the governor.. Who ever is over the Appalachian district needs to be fired. This August stoney fork will have been closed for 2 years..
