Great seeing so many folks, thanks to you and Mrs. Cheap for once again making your home a welcome center for so many. Of course after being so supportive after my wreck @SidewinderX further encouraged my rehab by letting me fondle his brandy new R1250, phuck she is sweet and now I want another "big" girl after my very enjoyable fling on the 850. Bunch of damn enablers :rofl

    Cheers

I can usually keep people amused...

I thought Ol Pa (@SuhthernBoy ) was gonna be mad at me for a bit. I think his quote was “I have a bone to pick with you! You told me that you was taking a slower pace today but we was only 10 min into the ride and I am doing 100mph trying to catch up!”...

We had a good group and kept a good pace.

Rode through the Cumberland Gap yesterday. Saw a duo of new KTM adventure bikes in the area.

Got out for 172 miles ride in Washington, Hawkins, Sullivan, Greene, and Hancock counties in TN and Scott County VA. Nice day for a ride. No pictures though. Routes 66 & 70 still aren't fixed. December is the latest estimate

Thanks for the updates. Very disappointing but I do understand the effort and funding to fix slides. Twice I have gone up there this summer only to learn 70 is closed Indifferent to what Google Maps shows. I really miss that route and from my starting point there is no decent alternative.

I did manage 1000 mile weekend on the touring bike. Va, Wv, back through Va, then tooling around WNC. Good ride except the ride home in the rain. It had been a while since I was forced into one of those.

I was out yesterday in Scott and Washington counties Virginia. Seems I never run into any Adv riders anywhere.

Yeah, no worries. I have hard enough time staying up by myself. Went down last weekend but got back up.

I have a trip planning question... (I know this is ride reporting but it is obvious that the contributors are local and experienced.)

When does the area around Asheland, NC "green-up" in the spring?

I live in ID and my riding has all been in the Rockies and west. I am curious about the eastern mountains and am starting to plan a spring 2020 trip to see he Ozarks and southern Appilachian mountains.

My objective is to stretch my riding season a bit by starting with a trip east in the spring, when it has greened-up yet is still cool. Then when I return to ID I can start my early spring riding in the west. I will be trailering my GS from ID to Tulsa, then riding the bike east.

The postings and pics from this thread are inspirational. Very different country than what I have experienced.

Thanks for this simple yet valuable info.

Do you perhaps mean Asheville, NC? If so, then the answer is It Depends on the year. Sometimes early April is warm and greening up, sometimes it's early May before one wants to be out and about. Altitude plays a role as well. Asheville is at 2,000' elevation with surrounding mountains reaching up to Mt. Mitchell's 6,683'. You can watch the green creep up the mountain sides as Spring progresses, often taking a week or two per 1,000'.
